Hey, I'm trying to help my brother in looking for some colleges.
-He has about a 3.7 GPA (He is almost top 10% of his class)
-Has taken a bunch of honors classes
-He will take 2 APs his senior year.
-Right now his PSATs are 1000 MV with a 600 Writing. I think he will probably wind up with an 1100-1150 MV and like a 650 writing so perhaps 1700-1800 overall.
-He is in Spanish National Honor Society, XC, Key Club
-Bunch of Community service (maybe like 150-200 hours)
-Holds a daily drive at our church to help collect school supplies
-He holds a part-time job year-round since Freshman year

As for schools, the geographical location would probably be: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Virginia. He needs probably a more nurturing environment with a smaller student body, with kids who do like to learn. Huge D-1 Athletics would be nice, but are not necessary. If anyone has ANY suggestions, I would really appreciate it! Thank you!

App State and UNC Asheville immediately come to mind in NC. App is in a great college town with a lot of football/school spirit.

Arcadia, Susquehanna, Drew, Ursinus, and Juniata might fit.

Mary Washington, UMBC

I would float Sewanee as a reachier school. Wofford would also be a bit of a reach school for him. UNCA would probably be a more nurturing environment than App, given that App is 5 times UNCA's size. Western Carolina may be a good situation, especially if he can get his SAT up for entry into the Honors Program. As a backpacker, I'd prefer Cullowhee to Boone or Asheville.

Are there any smallish LAC type schools in PA to look at?

Franklin and Marshall

Or Washington and Jefferson.

Also, Grove City College is an excellent school, and has an engineering program that is supposedly good.

In WV there is Davis and Elkins.

Virginia has Roanoke College, Randolph-Macon, Emory and Henry

Muhlenberg, Gettysburg.

small school with huge D1 sports is sort of an oxymoron

No, not an oxymoron --> Wake Forest!

St. Joe's or Cabrini in Philly

Vanderbilt...as a reach
