My child has been admitted to LMU and is considering the school as one of her top choices. However, she has some learning challenges (specifically, anxiety, stress, ADHD and a few other learning challenges) and has identified a school’s support system for students with challenges as one of the more important criteria on which to make her decision on the school to attend. We were lucky to have visited the campus before the pandemic and really like the campus and people we met, include folks at the disability resource center.
Since her acceptance, we have also found the resource center to be very friendly, open and willing to work with my daughter, but the actual real world experience of a current student may be very different. We also reached out to them for some actual student references but they cannot share any because of confidentially reasons. We would love for my daughter to talk to some actual students with challenge who can talk about their personal experiences at LMU.
If you or someone you know fits this scenario, do send me a private note and we can have that conversation. If you are a person with challenges, you know how critical this piece of the overall college experience is, so I hope you will be willing to connect with an incoming student to share your thoughts.
Concerned mom
-The educational support services (tutoring) are VERY easy to use and intuitive. You get MAX 2 visits per week for any class.
-The therapy/phycological services are free and easy to make appointments with.
-There are so many student run and faculty run support groups and clubs made just for stress/ADHD/Anxiety.
-Everyone is still nice and supportive of you even after acceptance and becoming a true LION. The experience you have with them now is very representative of the real expereince

Thanks for your response. That was good to hear! Are you a current student? Would you be willing to talk to my daughter about your experience?
Personally, the only experience I have is with the tutoring services. You can look at “Course Tutoring - Loyola Marymount University” and “Academic Resource Center - Loyola Marymount University” if you would like to know more about it. I haven’t been on campus yet, so I have yet to take advantage of the clubs/groups, and I havent made the time to see the therapist yet. Sorry, I dont think I would be able to provide the personal experience you are looking for.
HOWEVER, please reach out to your assigned Admission Advisor in order to speak with a student ambassador! They will connect you with a student with that experience, and it is their job to talk about their experience. Look up “Find Your Counselor - Digital Viewbook” in order to find your advisor if you haven’t yet. Good luck and we all hope you love LMU!
Hi! I am not sure how to send you a private note as I just made my account on here after coming across your question and wanted to share my experience if you are still up in the air. I just graduated this last weekend from LMU with my degree in Marketing and I also struggle with pretty severe ADHD and anxiety so I have worked with DSS during my time at LMU and can offer my experience if that is at all helpful. There were definitley pros and cons but I did find that overall, the office and people that work in it are very kind and helpful and they have a fairly decent online portal set up to help automate things. If you want to send me a message on here I could answer any specific questions you might have still if you do have any.
