Does any one know which boarding schools are good for severely dyslexic kid going into 8th grade? Actually teaching a severe dyslexic kid to read? Thank you so much.
I’d definitely consider Landmark. Especially if you are going to go after your public school to pay for it.
How about the Forman School in Litchfield CT?
I can’t speak specifically as to its work with dyslexia, but my younger son (ADHD) did their summer program this year and we both loved Eagle Hill - classes, kids, teachers, facilities. I would definitely explore it further to see if it would be a good fit.
I hope you find the right place.
@SarahatDonohoe are you asking for a boarding school for a student who is not able to read at all? Or for a student who is reading at a lower level? Or a student who cannot even decode words?
How old? The answers to these questions will help folks guide you better.
She is 12 years old, entering 7th grade and is on a beginning 3rd grade reading level. I will consider day and boarding.
Foreman starts in 9th grade but thank you.
We are not going after public to pay for it. Anyone know of someone who had a great experience at Landmark? Someone to speak with? Thank you.
A lady I know said that not a lot of dyslexic kids go to Eagle Hill, which seemed odd to me. She also said there was a bulling issue. Again, I don’t know, everyone has a different experience I suppose. Thank you.
I just Pm’d you.
Take a look at Rectory School in Pomfret, CT.
The International Dyslexia Association (formerly known as The Orton Society) was housed at this school a while back.
Rectory has a program for individual tutoring (IIP) in which students meet one on one with a tutor to work on whatever the student needs help with.
They have both boarding and day options.
My son went there for 3 years and graduated in May. His transformation was amazing.
Not sure where you are, but the family I know who chose Lewis in Princeton was thrilled with it. I don’t think there’s a boarding option, but it might be worthwhile to reach out.
