<p>Take a look at Florida State University, the University of Miami, Elon, Oklahoma City University, and Sam Houston State. They are probably the best known MT programs in the south. <p>My daughter is going to be attending the MT program at the University of Oklahoma. We think their program is fantastic. Their program is newer, so not as well known as many others, but provides quality education in all three areas: voice & music, dance, and acting. They take a small number of students (2006 is 7 girls and 6 boys), so that each student gets more individualized attention than a larger program.</p>

<p>Sarah - Bwaybound - we live in the South, also, and the above will give you a good list of what are considered to be the best programs around here.</p>
<p>If you also want to look at a few lesser known programs nearby, look into the following (although we never visited any of these): Ole Miss, Belmont in Nashville, and Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Ole Miss and OBU may not require an audition (please double check me). Belmont and OBU are BM degrees rather than BFA's, meaning they will have a little bit more emphasis on music. </p>
<p>You will also find that OCU has a BM degree. FSU and Miami offer both BM and BFA in MT. I believe the others are BFA degrees. My son will be attending Elon University for BFA in MT in the fall, if you have questions (can e-mail me).</p>

<p>Everyone always seems to forget ECU. Maybe they are not very big currently, but they have a great MT program. It is very competitive. Check it out too. :)</p>
<p>Missouri State University has a BFA MT program with auditions. I don't know anything about this program but maybe others have something to contribute.</p>
<p>University of Alabama has a great music program.</p>
<p>I have a friend that is a freshman mt major at Catawba College in North Carolina this year. Auditions are only required for scholarships, so it might be a good safety school. I know she's enjoying herself so far.</p>

<p>I believe that both ECU and Catawba allow admission into theatre without a required audition, but one must audition to get into MT after being on campus a semester or a year.</p>
<p>This is the LAST and FINAL year that ECU is allowing freshman to audition in their spring semester.
All incoming freshman must audition in their senior year of high school to be admitted into the Musical Theatre BFA program. (There is no BA program for MT) Very few exceptions will be made otherwise.
The Professional Acting Training Program (BFA) is also competitive to get into. You are accepted/rejected after your freshman year. If you get rejected you can still do the BA in theatre.</p>
