Hi

I am looking for grad school /petroleum engineering .I have a bachelor and master degree for the university of Baghdad-Iraq .I have a permenant resident here in the States.

I was awarded the Bsc with average of 69% which I think equivalent to (GPA =2.8) or something like this .I also awarded the Msc with average of 75 %,thesis grade was 85% . I will take the TOEFL this may and I am planning on taking the GRE too.

I am thinking of doing another master in the same field .

According to the qulification listed above will I be able to get addmission to some of the grad schools (I am thinking Colorado school of mines , or University of Texas at Austin )

I ve heard and read that they require very rigirous background inorder to get admission to the above mentioned schools.

Do I have to consider another schools or do I have to forget all about it and just start from the Bachelor or even start over.I just need to make decision within few months ,so i can apply for spring 2012.

your opinion is highly appreciated .

Thanks

i don’t think you will get into either of those schools, especially for engineering

You need to contact each of the universities that you are interested in to find out what their requirements are for graduate admission in your field of study. You should send your academic records to [World Education Services - International Education Intelligence](http://www.wes.org/) or another company that does formal evaluations. They have the expertise needed to interpret your grades and coursework correctly. For example, 75% at your old university may be a very good grade indeed.

For some graduate programs your work experience will be more important than your grades. When you communicate with the departments that you are interested in, be sure to talk with them about that as well.

There is a separate forum here just for Graduate School applicants. You might want to post your questions there. If you go to the main page that lists all of the forums, and then scroll down, you will find it.

Wishing you all the best!
