My high school used to have each senior choose a quote to appear below their portrait in the yearbook. Unfortunately, they did away with that the year before me.

If a yearbook has quotations, they have to be read pretty carefully before they are accepted for publication. Last year's yearbook at my son's high school had this quotation chosen by a senior:

"I hated school but I loved to come to ____(name of school) High."

I hope your dreams take you... to the corners of your smiles, to the highest of your hopes, to the windows of your opportunities, and to the most special places your heart has ever known.

It might not be relevant at all, but I always tell my daughter not to try to break thru the locked door, there are plenty that are wide open for you.

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.” - Anonymous

"Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so love the people who treat you right, forget about the ones who don't, and believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it."
- Harvey Mackay

We are all inventors, each sailing out on a voyage of discovery, guided each by a private chart, of which there is no duplicate. The world is all gates, all opportunities.-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.

Try to keep smiling. Get a little rock and roll on the radio, and go toward all the life there is with all the belief you can find and all the truth you can muster. Be true. Be brave. Stand. All the rest is darkness. - Stephen Kings "IT"

"To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To
never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of
life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty
to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what
is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To
try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget."
-Arundhati Roy

Just make the speech original!! A town near me (Northern CA) had a little trouble this June with one student plagiarizing the speech from the next town over, which was given the week before his own graduation!! And this was the Valedictorian! Wonder how much he cheated while in HS to get that coveted spot!!
