Looking for honest opinions from UC students

Applying to: All UCs, my number one is UCSB, Cal Poly SLO
Prospective major: Marine biology

UNW GPA (junior): 3.86
W GPA (junior): 4.21
UC GPA: 4.23

APs: AP bio (5), Art history (4), Calc (4), Chem (5), Comp gov (5), Spanish (5)

SAT: 2150
Writing: 745
Math: 660
Reading: 745

ECs*: Track (2 years varsity, 2 JV), football (2 JV), Hispanic Latino Student Union president/founder, Spanish youth council, Red Cross camp officer and delegate (2 years), volunteer hours

*I included a personal statement talking about how I was left alone at home w/my 3 siblings for days at a time after mom died due to dad on work trips and how that prevented me from participating in many ECs. Don't know if this is a valid excuse, counselor recommended it.

Hispanic
High middle class income family (single parent)
Excellent essays (10/10, talking about personal responsibility and protecting the family while maintaining a high GPA after death of mother)

Please help me out! I know this will probably get lost amidst the sea of chancees but I would really appreciate feedback!

Well I’m not a UC student but I can tell you that you have very decent chances at all of the UC’s, especially if you are in-state (I’m assuming you are), and a URM. Your Math scores are a little low for the likes of UCLA and UCB, but even then UCLA would probably be a high match. I would be surprised if you did not get into UCSB.

Also, how did you manage to score 745 on a SAT section?

magic

bump for more exposure

Yes, you have a good statistics. You have a huge chance with your last score. Have you taken a SAT subject test?

@jr12317 no but planning on taking math 2, bio, and chem

Yes, that would be awesome. Take MATH1&2. A 700+ will make the difference. What was your SAT1 math score on Dec?

680

You are fine. Since the UC’s require to send all the scores, send them. Study hard for the Subject test and then you will be good for all the UC’s. Are you a resident of California?
You will have more chance since they give more priority to residents.
