Looking for HYPS.

I'll cut the bullshit. I'm an international applicant; from Pakistan. I know that that itself significantly reduces my chances of getting in anywhere, but as far as qualified international students go, I would deeply value and appreciate your opinion and insight.

SAT 1: (Yet to receive my scores; I'm expecting them to be in top tier though In Sha Allah, by which I mean the 2250-2400 range)

SAT 2: Yet to take, though I will take Math II, Physics and Chemistry.

GPA: I believe it's a 4.0. I gave 15 subjects in the Cambridge International Examinations or O' Levels; quite obviously different from the American system. Out of those I received 14 As, and a B in my local language, Urdu.

I also topped in the World in one subject which I studied for myself in a day, Environmental Management. I also scored the Best Across 8 As in my region which includes around 30,000 students sitting for the same number of exams.

Class Rank: First or Second out of almost 300

Course Load: Since we don't have AP's here, I have Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, general Paper( English language) as my Advanced Level subjects. Further mathematics and chemistry in particular are much much tougher than their AP counterparts from what I've gleaned (Further Mathematics squeezes in about six or seven APs such as Cal etc)

Extracurriculars:

I've won quite a few local debating competitions, and I'm also an Under 17 national debating champion.
I've been ranked the 12th best and 9th best Under 17 Speaker in my country consecutively.
Shortlisted for the Pakistan National Debating Team
Won five or six local MUNs
Winner at HarvardMUN China (Outstanding Diplomacy Award)
Assistant Director at Harvard MUN India (hopefully' results come out soon)
Director General of my school's Model UN Conference
Editor of my school's magazine for Two years
Director of my school's annual play, called GOA
Organized charity drives to help flood victims in various areas of the country
By the summer, I will have interned at three places (I'll teach kids living in underprivileged areas in two and taught dyslexic children in another)
Also planning to get some of my articles published by National level English newspapers (consider it done as it's in the pipeline and only a matter of time
I'm also fluent in four different languages, two local (Urdu and Punjabi), the other being English obviously, as well as French. I've received diplomas up to the A2 Level in French but I'm planning to take the advamced exam, B1, as soon as I can

I understand that I've yet to do some vital aspects of what I've outlined. However, for the purposes of chancing, I would request that you consider them done. Please do let me know any feedback you may have!

No solid numbers means no solid chances…I don’t think anyone can give you an answer without scores or an actual GPA

Take 2300 SAT 1 and 2350 SAT II. I’ve also talked to a lot of people, and it probably is the case, my GPA is a 4.0. What would you say now?

SAT II doesn’t get added together like that; each score stands on its own.

And it’d be a reach, as for everyone…you may get into one, but you could just as easily not get into any. Your ECs look fantastic though; should make for interesting essays. Good luck.

Good EC’s. Depends on the major?
Penn probably the best chance.

Hahahaha. 800 Math II hopefully, 780 Physic and 770 Chemistry. Hope that clarifies the SAT II :stuck_out_tongue: Thanks you very much though. I really appreciate it! :)

Major is probably going to be something in economics and philosophy. And why would you say Penn? any reason in particular?

If I was you, I would do ED to a top ten school rather than SCEA for HYPS. You will have a good shot at penn ED, or Dartmouth or Duke. RD however is an absolute crapshoot for all top ten schools (even ED is but some schools value it more).

But I’m an international student applying with aid. Don’t the chances balance out? The higher selectivity of HYP with the reduced chances of getting aid at Penn etc?

Hahaha, doing well Abbasi?

Getting into Penn as an international applying for fin aid is almost impossible, Harvard is ok because of the need blind policy it implements, Stanford is again a big reach due to fin aid, Princeton is good. Also what major are you applying for, do not say CS or engineering because your EC’s show no interest in these two fields.

Just saw econ and phil as major, then why are you taking those subject tests, with those majors schools would like to see subject tests like eng lit etc.

Do you take A levels in Pak? If so what were your marks. If no A Levels then Top schools will want to see SAT 2 subject scores in 3 relevant courses.
