Looking for info on Shattuck-St. Mary's

Any info or experience with Shattuck-St. Mary's would be greatly appreciated. We have visited and are very impressed with the facilities. My son is being recruited for their soccer program. It truly is top-notch for specialized athletes (soccer, hockey, figure-skating). Thank you for your time.

ps we are from California, so there is a bit of culture shock...

Go to bigsoccer.com and click on "forums". In the forums, scroll down to the "USA" section and click on "Youth and HS". You can do a search there or look for posts by "RegionIIFutbolr". His daughter attends S-SM and loves it. There has been lots of discussion about this school on the site.

As an aside, is your son currently in one of the academy club programs? My son has forgone this to attend bs. He will still be able to maintain his club affiliation and they are allowing him to keep his spot on the premier team without attending practices. He will do superY and, I suppose, ODP, although it is really a notch down with the advent of the academy system.
I have considered S-SM myself; I really didn't find out about it until my son had already been admitted to his current school, which he loves.

Because Shattuck-St.Mary's has the same founder as St. Paul's school it still shares the educational philosophy of perhaps the finest boarding school in America--spiritual generosity. It is not a rich school but it is beautiful, a community, great humanities, good academic standards. Go for it

Thanks to all who have responded...Keep them coming.

keylyme...our club is in talks with US Soccer right now, we may be joining the academy this Spring. He does Super-Y, his team won the national finals last year, he is invited to national camp and he is on the Region IV Regional team. I am very impressed with the training program and philosophy at S-SM. Thanks.

pingisi, is there a reason why you are sending your son to S-SM rather than just sticking with your team's academy? I am assuming that you had considered bs already, and want a school with a strong soccer program. Or, is soccer development the #1 reason and you feel that this presents a better opportunity than academy?

keylyme, the latter...soccer development is the primary reason. even in the USSF academy the training is still only as good as the local coaches. fortunately our club has qualified coaches but it is still not the same as the environment at Shattuck. S-SM and PSA are probably the closest we can come to the academies in Europe, etc. S-SM certainly has the best academics out of IMG, PSA and S-SM. Thanks.

any other info on s-sm? thanks.
