I was wondering if anyone could provide some general comments/advice on the difficulty of transferring into Brown for junior year. I have heard conflicting reports about their recent transfer acceptance rates.

As for me personally, I attend Boston University with a 3.92 GPA and have a strong extracurricular record. Although I realize a lot more goes into a decision than just grades, SATs, etc, I was hoping to get some kind of general feel for how difficult it will be.

Thanks.

SAT: 2060
SAT II History: 790
SAT II English: 690
HS GPA: 3.69
HS COURSELOAD: 4 AP classes, with the rest being honors-level courses

The acceptance rate for transfers varies widely from year to year. It depends on the number of applications, which fluctuates, the matriculation rate (sometimes more freshmen accept than expected, sometimes fewer), and the number of students taking either time off or studying abroad. Sometimes there may be 50 transfers accepted, other years 200. So there is no constant acceptance rate.

I have no idea what Brown is looking for when it comes to transfer students, so can’t help you there.

I’m a transfer for spring, and our stats are very similar, actually. I’m a sophomore transfer, though, so I don’t know if that makes any difference. But I still think you have a really good shot as long as you do well on the essays and such.

I have a sort of related question–how hard was the actual process for those of you who were transfers (making friends, finding your way around, etc.)? I am considering transferring in as a sophomore next year (right now I’m taking a year off).
