Looking for liberal art schools in VT, RI, MA - New England

Hi,

We're hoping to do a short 3-day college tour/visit towards the end of this week. We're looking for liberal arts programs at semi small schools under 6000 students. Right now the list is all over the place including Keene State, Champlain, Johnson & Wales, Roger Williams, Curry, and Rivier College. We're looking for schools with small class sizes, experiential learning opportunities and ideally under 30K. Any suggestons?

Thanks for your help.

For Vermont:

The best-known liberal arts schools in Vermont are Middlebury, Bennington, and Marlboro. Bennington and Marlboro are somewhat less selective and offer more experiential/experimental opportunities. They have strengths in writing and the arts, especially, and emphasize progressive, student-directed learning. Bennington has a mandatory "Field Work Term" every year for experiential learning, which may be interesting to you. They both have tuition in the range of 40K, though. And both are small - Bennington has 500 students, Marlboro 350.

St. Michael's College is fairly near Burlington - much less rural - and has a larger student body, around 2,000 undergraduates. It's a Catholic school (although pretty progressive - there are plenty of non-Catholic students) with a liberal arts emphasis that also offers master's degrees.

Champlain, I know, has a relatively new four-year program (only established in 1991), and their programs are still really career-driven - not as liberal arts oriented.

Maybe check out the Vermont state colleges - Castleton, Lyndon, and Johnson. There are a few other schools with enrollments under 1000, if you're interested in schools that small - Green Mountain College, Southern Vermont College, College of St. Joseph - of which Green Mountain College is the largest and best-regarded. Tuition at Green Mountain is about 25K; Southern Vermont College and College of St. Joseph are about 15K.

Thanks - I'm checking out that list.
Any suggestions for NH, RI or MA?

Rightfit, some others to look at are Plymouth State in NH and Mass. College of Liberal Arts. Both are around 25K. There is also Lasell about 8 miles from Boston. It is around 30K but I believe they are good with financial aid.

Here it is ..... the new and improved list. RI will likely be a separate day trip. Any thoughts on trip planning for the others? Are there any schools you would suggest adding to the list or skipping?

Curry College, Milton, MA
Endicott College, Beverly, MA
Lasell College, Newton, MA

Johnson & Wales University, Providence, RI
Rhode Island College, Providence, RI
University of Rhode Island, Kingston, RI

Champlain College, Burlington, VT
Green Mountain College, Poultney, VT

Rivier College, Nashua, NH
Keene State, Keene, NH

Siena College, Loundonville, NY
Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY

Thanks for the suggestions

It looks like a good list. Some of these are fairly close to one another also.

Other Catholic options in New England: Thomas More College of Liberal Arts (Merrimack, NH); Saint Anselm College (Manchester, NH); Stonehill College (Easton, MA) and Assumption College (Worcester, MA). Catholic College Search from NCCAA
