Schools (mostly reaches :[)

UCB
UCLA
UCSD
UCD
UCSB
UCSC
USC
Purdue.

Intended Major: aerospace engineering.

i'm looking for matches and safeties for my stats, especially ones that will take my low gpa :(

THANKS!!

to be honest, there are a lot better schools for aerospace engineering than the UC’s you listed…in fact none of the UC schools are really known for aerospace and I don’t think Santa Cruz or Santa Barbara even have aerospace engineering!

Here are the schools I would definitely look at that are known as the best for aerospace engineering in the country:

Georgia Tech
Michigan
Purdue
Illinois
Texas
Maryland
Virginia Tech
Cal Poly - SLO
Embry Riddle (Florida)
Embry Riddle (Arizona)

You really need to talk to your high school college/guidance counselor. They have access to much more information about you than any anonymous poster on this forum.

Thanks Pierre! i’m going to look at georgia tech and virginia tech (they’re more within my reach than u of m)

and hope: i asked you guys because my counselors recommanded me all UCs, and as you can see. they’re not exactly for aerospace.

Despite what USNews would have you think, UCLA has a good aerospace program. However that would be a reach. Purdue, GT and VT are good choices.

New list of schools
after some research

UCB.

UCLA

John Hopkins.

Cornell

Carnegie Mellon

U. Michigan

Cal Poly SLO

UCD

can anyone categorize these into reach/match/safety for me? i think i’m seriously lacking some safeties. my state is california. Thank you very much.

erin’s dad: i agree that ucla is underrated for their engineering :). i have a slight problem with the three schools you mentioned though, i’m OOS for all three of htem.

UCB: reach

UCLA: reach

John Hopkins: reach

U. Michigan: reach

Cal Poly SLO: match

UCD: match

TOO MANY REACH SCHOOLS!!! not enough safety schools!

I have heard from many professors and other people that Embry Riddle is the BEST school for aerospace engin. GA Tech is also great for engin, not sure about aerospace though.

here’s what I would do, drop UCD, UCSD and Northwestern from your list
add: Illinois, Embry Riddle and Maryland

pierre, do you have any reccomendations for safeties for me? i’m seriously scared i might not even get in purdue since i’m OOS. thanks!

trinniele, if my 3.0 GPA can get me into Purdue engineering, your 3.46 will definitely get you in :)

embry-riddle would be a nice safety school
