Looking for Materials Science Program

I've already thought of MIT, Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, and Northwestern. I'd appreciate more suggestions. Also, how many applications is a "good" amount?

I'm a double major in BME/MS with a minor in Chem at a top 10 US school. My GPA is about 3.9, 720V/800Q GRE. I've got one publication accepted at the Journal of Applied Physics and am currently writing a new paper for publishing. I've got 3 semesters and 2 summers research experience under the same prof.

PS: Should I be worried that likely two of my letters will be weak, since only the prof with whom I've done research really knows me. (I'm kinda quiet in class and haven't been to office hours ever).

Thanks a lot for the help; I know I've crammed a lot into this post.

You should get into most top schools. Your profile is very good. Just make sure you have decent LORs. By the way, what area of Materials are you planning to do research in?

I’m hoping to study nanoscience or metamaterials. The latter is usually contained in EE, but it’s too late for me to switch my major.
