Looking for med school suggestions

Your son needs to buy a book with the admission stats for each school he is considering. The ststs will include the number of applicants in state and out of state and the acceptance rate for each category. Many state schools take few or no out of stse applicants so applying is a waste of time. The stats will also report the average GPA and mcat score so he will be able to estimate his chances.

And l agree that six schools is way too few. He should be applying to twice as many. He will have some control over interview dates. Our s was very successful in grouping them so an offer from one school to interview could often be used as leverage to get an interview at other schools nearby.

That book would be the MSAR (Medical School Admission Requirements) published annually by AAMC. It’s $25 for the print version; $15 for on-line access; $9.99 for Kindle version,

https://www.aamc.org/students/applying/requirements/msar/

Well worth the price. Full of invaluable info.

Or your son can check for it at his college’s library.

Thanks. We have the MSAR so it’s just a question of combing through it I think.
