Looking for midwest college matches!

I'm a senior at a public high school in MN. Besides the University of Minnesota and University of Wisconsin, I have no idea where to apply for college and am looking for some match schools that I could apply to.

Preferably schools in the Midwest

Suburban - Urban setting

Midsize - Large class size

These are my stats:
- 3.5 Unweighted G.P.A (Took as many APs and honors classes I could take, I'm in a magnet engineering/science program, strong upward trend)
- Decent EC's. Participated in Debate, newspaper, and sports. President of an Indian-culture youth organization and President of an Engineering Explorers Post.
- 50+ hours of Community Service (If that does anything for me)
- 33 ACT
- East Indian ethnicity

Anybody there?

University of Michigan IF you can afford it…

For the best value ----> The Ohio State University Honors Program (check out National Buckeye Scholarship for OOS students).

Then, there is UIUC, Purdue & PSU if you are into Engineering.

Are you looking for engineering or a particular major? Is cost an issue?

Many of the smaller WI public schools would meet your criteria, depending on their strength in your preferred major: UW-LaCrosse, Eau Claire, Stevens Point, Oshkosh. You should have no trouble getting into any of them. Stout and Platteville are well-known for engineering, but they aren’t what I would call urban/suburban, more “very small town.”

UW-Milwaukee has great programs an is in a terrific city, too. It’s a less traditional university (many returning students and commuters) but offers a lot of opportunities and is pretty much a guaranteed admission for you.

Private schools tend to be smaller than what you say you want. You might want to look at at Carroll University near Milwaukee. Also, with your stats don’t discount the merit aid you might get at out-of-state publics or private schools in general.

I can’t speak for the MN schools. Good luck!

“University of Michigan IF you can afford it…”

The GPA is a bit low for Michigan. Also PSU is not in the midwest.

I don’t necessarily think your GPA is too low for UM. If you’re taking a challenging course load and is treading upward, I think a 4.0 first semester of senior year would get you a real good shot. Plus that ACT in the top percentile is impressive. I have a 33 as well but a 3.7, and I’m fairly confident I’m getting in. Like someone else said, UM is expensive for OOS though.

University of Iowa and Iowa State - Match and Safety

Michigan - State Match

University of Illinois -slight reach

University of Kansas and Kansas State - Safety

University of Nebraska - Safety

Indiana University- Match

If you can bump up your GPA a bit, match and possible great merit aid at [Miami University](Costs, Scholarships, and Financial Aid | Miami University).

“Michigan - State Match”

I assume you mean the OP is a match for MSU. For Michigan, he is a reach.
