I want to be careful about risking plagiarism, so if you are NOT applying to schools this year, would you be willing to read my transfer essays? I am banking a lot on them, and I want them to be as good as possible. Please reply to this thread and I will message you. Thanks!

Hello. Send your essay to me.

I’m only a junior, so you can PM me.

If it’s possible for others to plagiarize your essay, then it’s not a very good essay to begin with, because it means it’s not unique to you.

@joeycalifornia,
How does that make any sense? It’s still possible for someone else to take my words and pretend that the experiences in my essay happened to them. It’s not like admissions officers have a way to verify everyone’s life story.

If you still need a reader, I’ll be happy to look it over (I’m currently a junior).

I’m long done with my own applications so you can PMme if you want, or maybe you wanna exchange essays? I have a 600 words response that could need some review ;)

It makes perfect sense. If it’s truly unique to you it would clearly contradict other information in their application. If I ripped off someone’s essay about growing up in the Congo, being orphaned and eventually helping with UN-sponsored humanitarian efforts, it would definitely raise a few eyebrows to see that I’m also a white kid with transcripts from California schools and have entirely different career goals.

If what you’re writing about could easily be adopted by anyone else, I would suspect neither you nor they will be very memorable to an adcom.

That’s about the most valuable advice I can give without being able to see your essay :)

@joey,

It is easy to plagiarize. It depends on the prompt of the essay. if the prompt is asking you about your personal academic experiences or a very specific extra-curricular or hobby, then the writer may have trouble plagiarizing, but if the topic is asking you to write about something more general, anyone can use it.

For example, one of my essays is asking me to write about an issue of importance to me. It could be personal, social, or political. I am writing about an issue that is both social and a little personal, but I can definitely see the ideas i present in my essay being stolen.

I’ll happy to look over to help you :)

^ join date feb 2013… definitely didn’t register to get ideas from essays. beware OP
