Looking for pro/cons - Aerospace Major - WPI vs Clarkson Honors
Both programs are strong; the schools and locations are very different so think more about the right fit.
Look at the male/female ratio at these schools.
Look at the required and available classes relevant for the proposed degree. This is something the student should be doing. Look at the options if a switch in majors happens. Look at what happens to grads in the major- job recruiting et al. The regular curriculum at WPI may be as good as the honors at Clarkson- have your child (near adult now) compare the probable courses. Do not just look at minimums required, look at classes allowed to meet and exceed reqs. If one school has more pleasant options, such as ancillary math or sciences courses, then that is the choice. That is the academic part.
As above- “right fit” matters a lot. It is a lot easier to study in the environment one likes- easier to keep motivated academically if socially it is a good fit. Child can be a list maker. Pros (likes) and cons (dislikes) for each school on myriads of issues. Some may seem trivial but they all add up. Sometimes it comes to a coin toss- if the schools appear about equal. Of course, finances can be the deciding factor.
Whichever school is chosen- do not look back. Move forward with enthusiasm.
