My daughter was just accepted to Rider. The degree is Music with a concentration in voice/musical theatre. Can anyone give me information on the program. She had a positive feel about the faculty after the audition., not thrilled with the campus but we were there on a very grey day and plan a return visit before making a decision.

Congrats to your daughter! The following discussion forum may be of interest for you to read, and then ask further questions:

I read throught the westminster posts but they are all somewhat dated.

A friend of my D’s is at Rider/Westminster Choir College and reports that the music theater major is no longer going to be part of WCC: it will be run by Rider.

You may wish to contact evasmom as her daughter is a senior in the program.

Hi there-- we may be visiting Rider soon and when I called admissions they were unable to tell me even which campus the MT program is on! They did kindly give me a faculty member’s email-- she was very generous with info. The MT program is on the Lawrence campus now, a part of “Westminster College of the Arts” at Rider. It was developed at WCC but the facilities are better at the Lawrence campus, I think. The faculty hasn’t changed though, just the location.

If your D has been accepted I would definitely get in touch with the dept. chair and ask every question you have. I’m curious-- the WCC thread above says that the department is adding a stronger acting component. Did you see or hear anything of that at the audition?

My son was accepted to Rider, but chose a different school. what we where told last Spring is that currently the degree is a BM MT, but the new director stated that they where in the process of changing over to a BFA MT program. The MT classes are all on the Lawrence campus now except some of the dance classes are at the Princeton Ballet studios. The program is very musically based. Students are required to be in chior every semester. They are in process of renovating the theater on the Lawrenceville campus. The MT majors are usually housed together in the same dorm. That dorm has very nice practice studios in the basement and the program directors office was in that dorm as well. We loved that campus and would have been very happy if my son chose their program.
