You are not that many SAT or ACT points away from the Alabama full tuition scholarship for engineering majors.

In any case, since you would get an automatic lesser scholarship (half tuition + $1,500) there, Alabama presumably would admit you, making it an admission safety.

Most important: what are your cost constraints?

@ucbalumnus

Does University of Alabama allow scores from different SAT tests? If I used my math score from my first testing, I would have a CR+M score of 1330, which would meet the minimum score of the 2/3 tuition scholarship.

My cost constraints aren’t an issue. My family is well off and they have enough saved up for me for schools like UT even without any scholarships. However, I personally don’t want to spend money where I don’t want to, which is why most of the schools I’m currently considering are in-state (California).

http://scholarships.ua.edu/faq/ indicates that Alabama does not super-score SAT or ACT scores.

A 1330 SAT CR+M or 30 ACT would bring the Alabama scholarship to 2/3 tuition, plus an additional 1/3 tuition + $2,500 for engineering majors (i.e. engineering majors get a total of full tuition + $2,500). If you are seriously interested in Alabama, sign up for the SAT and ACT – a few saturday mornings could be worth thousands of dollars over four years.

Alabama does not superscore. Right now, you qualify for the half tuition award…which is about 13k per year…not bad, but you could probably retest and get more.

You really should retest and try to get a 1330 for the M+CR so that you’ll get a LOT more merit money.

Alabama for the win.

Another good engineering school that flies under the radar: Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, TN.

Try NC State University. They have a great engineering school definitely be in your reach!

UT is not a particularly good prospect for you, because they are very selective for out-of-state students. You might have better luck with Texas A & M, although it is not in as appealing a location.
