A Hispanic student from my school got into Harvard last year with a 4.2 weighted GPA and 1960 on the SAT. He was a pretty interesting guy, had strong AP and SAT II scores (5s on BC Calc, and both Physics C tests from Junior year, and several 770+ IIs), and had some respectable ECs, though.

An African American from my high school got in with an 1810 on the SAT. His grades weren't expectacular either; but he did have really good extracurriculars: he worked for Hilary Clinton over the summer and is outstanding with the sax.
