I'm having trouble finding match colleges in Cali, so maybe someone can help?

Junior
3.28 GPA
172 PSAT (68CR/53M/51W)
attended privated school until end of first semester junior year. currently at public school.

No EC's. I was in some clubs at my old school, but wasn't very active, and obviously had to drop them since I moved.
attending Oxbridge, Oxford Tradition this summer
I want to major in English, and possibly minor in Latin.
I'm not really looking at the UC's, but I will apply to atleast one. Probably Santa Cruz.

I can't think of anything else, but does anyone have any suggestions?

You might be able to get into Cal Poly as an English major. I think Business, Engineering, and Architecture are the only real competetive majors (in terms of admission) at Cal Poly.

You actually need a higher gpa to get into liberal arts than you do for engineering at cal poly. It think it's 3.84 to 3.82, or something like that.

your stats are too low for SLO and most of the best privates.
you might want to take a look at azusa pacific and santa clara, as better and smaller schools in state, though both will cost you a few bucks. and yes, redlands is a match given its strong liberal arts focus.

Loyola Marymount, Occidental, Chapman, Univ of the Pacific. Santa Clara is not too rich and blonde, but may be a reach for you. The great thing about UC Merced is that it's too new to be large. Very small but with a public school tuition.

Second for St. Mary's; also possibly UC Merced. Mills College in Oakland is an all-girls school but would offer the kind of education you're looking for. Also look at University of San Francisco (USF), Dominican College and Notre Dame of Belmont.

I don't want a strong religious focus. I had that in high school before I moved to public school, and I hated having religion forced on me. And my high school was all girls, so no all womens college. And I'd like a balenced male-female ratio.

Also, would it be ok to apply EA to some of these colleges? For example, Santa Clara & Chapman are EA, but I don't want to apply EA if it would hurt me, but I would much rather apply EA if it won't make much of a difference.

And some colleges that were mentioned are too close to home, so not even going to look at those. lol I'll take a look at the others though, thanks everyone for helping :D

Some of the Cal States are actually on the small side - take a look at Cal State Monterey Bay, Humboldt State, and Cal State Stanislaus, for example. In terms of private schools, look at these: Whittier, University of the Pacific, and, as already suggested, Mills College.

In terms of applying EA, my rule of thumb is you shouldn't apply early to reachier schools if you think your grades in first semester senior year will go up. Same holds true if you'll need more time to re-take the SATs -- applying EA means your last shot will be the October test date usually. Chapman and Santa Clara are definitely going to be reachy with your GPA and current test scores. My advice would be to talk with your high school guidance counselor about which would be the best path.
