Starting the college search for son #2 and he wants to go out of state (we live in MN). We are looking for schools that will provide in state tutition rates if you receive a merit scholarship. Some I know of are UNM, Texas Tech, anyone know of others?
@mnacttutor I’ve heard here several times that there’s an automatic honors college acceptance (with tuition reduction or waiver) at 30-something ACT but haven’t looked myself since Alabama is out of our personal geographic area of interest. You may be right, sorry if I misled.
Alabama used to offer full tuition scholarships with a 32. This yr it was reduced to a lump sum (iirc $25k) with a 33, which is close but not quite full tuition.
Texas A&M does but they have made the OOS waiver brutally hard to get. There was a thread last year and I seem to remember some fell short by like $500.00. Definitely investigate to see how many are awarded.
@bobo44 Nebraska comes in 1200 higher than instate after deducting Beadle award… we were awarded Leverton Which 13K due to falling short on ACT … today they increased it to Beadle … this was a result of me letting the scholarship office know we were deciding between three colleges and the other two came in lower due to higher merit
I don’t know about how Nebraska is with negotiating scholarships, but overall it’s a very responsive & well-run place. They often get their acceptance notifications out just a few days after you apply.
@Mom2E Because I received the Leverton scholoarship for 13k a yr, and I was going to see whether they can bring it up to Beadle as well. Did you just call them and asked them to raise it to Beadle or did you have to negotiate a bit? My stats are along the same line as yours.
