looking for schools

I'm a junior in the beginning stages of my college search. At this point I'm not too picky and pretty much open to any suggestions!

Info:
-I'm an AB student. I previously estimated my GPA to be approx a 3.7 but I'm not sure because the schools I attended overseas did not calculate GPA.
-I've pretty much taken all honours classes and I have pretty rigorous course load
-Estimated to score 2000+ on SAT
-Okay EC's: volunteering, clubs, and sports

School criteria:
-I'm looking for schools strong in social sciences, primarily economics.
-Medium to large school
-Open to location but prefer relatively urban areas.
-Nice campus

Also, are there any schools that place a heavy emphasis personal qualities and your essay rather than a heavy emphasis on your grades and stats.

Wisconsin, Chicago, Michigan, Pitt and Maryland.

Smith College, if you’re female.

Northwestern University or the University of Chicago satisfy all of your criteria. Grades & stats are important at both of these universities as are teacher recs & essays.

thanks for the suggestions.
@ coldwind: if i’m not mistaken northwestern and university of chicago would be reaches with my stats?

any other suggestions?

Boston University has a really good economics program and seems pretty realistic for you.

Without an actual standardized test score, it is difficult to determine whether or not Northwestern University & the Univ. of Chicago are unreasonable reaches. Claremont McKenna College in Pomona, California–outside of Los Angeles-- is another highly selective option. CMC, however, is a small school in a consortium of five schools (Pomona College, Scripps–all female, Harvey Mudd --all engineering, Claremont McKenna–government, political science & economics, and Pitzer). You can take classes at all 5 schools, and dining facilities are open to all students from all 5 schools.
Liberal Arts Colleges (LACs) may place a stronger emphasis on essays & personal qualities. Schools that are SAT/ACT optional emphasis GPA, rigor of coursework, essays & teacher recs.
Bowdoin College in Maine is SAT optional–but it is also highly selective. Great for economics, government, political science & a host of other areas of study. Great food & great dorms in a semi-rural near the ocean location.
Consider St. Mary’s College of Maryland. It is the state’s honors college. Co-ed LAC. Beautiful waterfront location.

thanks catlinjon

coldwind: hmm yeah. I am taking the PSAT in a couple of weeks so when I get that score maybe it’ll help me determine my chances.
