I fell in absolute love with Reed. It's vibe, and the quirky, off-center intellectual atmosphere appeal to me a lot.
However, it's pretty much impossible for me to go any further west than Iowa, since it would be extremely difficult for me to go home on breaks or anything from that distance (I live in Florida). Plus, making a 3,000 mile car ride by myself to get home would take ridiculously long.
I was wondering if anyone knew any schools that were Reed-ish, in the Midwest or on the East Coast?

St johns in MD maybe. I’ve recieved mail from both and I thought the two were similar sounding

Grinnell, Carleton, Macalester, Oberlin.

agreed with Oberlin.

Good colleges even closer to home include Centre College (KY) and Davidson (NC), although all the schools mentioned above may be closer in atmosphere to Reed. Swarthmore College has all the intellectual intensity of Reed, but is extremely selective. Wesleyan University (CT) is a little less selective than Swarthmore, but farther away.

Isn’t New College-Sarasota right in your own back yard?

Vassar? Beloit?

Also Knox? Bard?

Cornell, Vanderbilt.

Chicago is probably the closest cousin to Reed among research universities. Hampshire College in MA has a similar intellectual atmosphere, but its not of the same league in terms of academics.
