Hi I am looking for selective colleges/universities outside of CA that is possible (and hopefully easy) to surf. And I would love to hear about your surf life there.
I really love surfing but I also want to experience other places, like East Coast.
I have a 4.8 weighted GPA and 2000 SAT right now, vice president of student body, and really strong extra activities. Any good advice? Thanks!!!

http://www.surfermag.com/features/best-surf-towns-no-10/ may give you some ideas of surfing areas. However, 5 of the 10 are in CA, and 2 of the others are in HI.

Consider this: schools don’t surf; successful students sometimes surf, but primarily they study hard. Consider combining your interests in surfing with the classwork you have to do and enjoy going to school.

Just curious why not California?

lol…schools don’t surf.

What is your major? If you have a serious major, you won’t have time to surf much…certainly not enough to justify choosing a college specifically for this.

How much will your parents pay? Will they pay MORE money just so you can be in a surfing location?

The amount that your parents will pay will largely determine where you should apply.

What is your Math + CR?

Although the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico can’t compare with the Pacific for surfing, you can find some surfing there. Tulane and Rice are close enough to Gulf beaches for you to get there easily. New College of Florida and Eckerd are right on the water. University of Miami ought to give you access to decent surfing. College of Charleston isn’t especially selective (nor is Eckerd), but there are beautiful beaches nearby, and the water stays warm most of the year. Further north, you would need a wetsuit, but I have family members who windsurf in all but the winter months. You can get to some great beaches easily from University of Delaware, Connecticut College, Brown, and even Yale. I can’t understand why, if surfing is your passion, you wouldn’t want to apply to UCs in San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz, and Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo. Come to think of it, if you’re committed enough, you can get to the water within not much more than an hour from Princeton, Columbia, Harvard, Penn, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, etc. . . . etc…

A fast internet connection?

Oops, wrong kind of surfing. :)
