Hey CC community,

Do many URMs apply ED?

How much leeway is given on both the SAT/ACT range and the GPA range for URMs?

How much does being URM and applying early decision to a school help in the admissions process?

URMs do apply ED, but not in any higher numbers than they do in regular decision.

URMs do get a bit of leeway on SAT/ACT and GPA. There is no set number of points a Hispanic would get added to their SAT, so to speak, compared to a Native American, but it can be quite a substantial boost to your chances if as a URM you score close to the range of scores.

ED applicants are given a little bit of leeway for scores. However, that’s really just for borderline cases. Since the pool of applicants for ED is more competitive, having a SAT score that’s in the 25% percentile will not be looked upon favorably. If you can get right around or below the 50%, you will be helped, not hurt, by applying ED.

So, if you are borderline or right below it, applying ED as a URM should substantially help your chances. Having said that, EVERY school is different. The average school will most likely give you, assuming you’re talking about yourself, a rather large boost.

Anything else, just ask.

Best regards,
