So I’m currently a Junior at Bentley University (76 Credits), studying Economics-Finance. I realized that I would have a larger student loan bill than expected if I stay at Bentley (which I already knew was coming). So, I decided to look at alternatives that may be less tortuous on the pockets but still provide a top-tier education. I found Northeastern’s College of Professional Studies Bachelor’s Completion Program (they told me I would have 60 credits to start) fully online and was accepted into the program. While I work well in an online environment, I don’t want to leave my current school if the NU program is significantly lesser than the Undergraduate counterpart. In the end, this is not a done decision, but I want to see what you all think about whether it would make more sense to stay at Bentley and graduate or go to NU and graduate online instead.
I think you need to figure out all of the costs on this. Transferring with 3 semesters left is not ideal. And NU and most other colleges will have you do the equivalent of 4 semesters with them. So you are paying twice for one semester and maybe more if they do not take all of your classes for your major or their core requirements.
Can you go to Bentley’s financial aid office and figure out if there are any other options you qualify for? Can you take classes needed instate next summer at a local college or online that will transfer to Bentley to reduce some costs? (Even UMass Boston Online for summer classes are reasonable in cost and may transfer - many of their professors are also at other Boston area colleges.) how about being an RA next year or starting next semester if possible to cut room and board costs?
What is the cost at NU for the online program? Would you still participate in the COOP at NU if you are online? That is their major benefit.
