Still interested in knowing how I might do at Tufts, Rice, RPI, UConn and/or UMiami for the 7 year med programs there! I think I got a good idea of how the other schools on my list will play out. Lots of views I see, so feel free to speak out! Thanks!

Anyway, Northeastern may still be a high match simply because of the 3.2 - your SATs would definitely qualify you, as well as your ECs and essay; however, I’m definitely foreseeing a problem with the GPA factor. Honestly, I hate to say it, but I think UMass would be the best bet simply because of the GPA. I know that colleges are doing a holistic process now, but compared to the NU average I feel as if it would not be something that the admissions committee could easily see through. According to **************.com, you rank in the 15th percentile for admitted students. But applying EA can’t hurt UNLESS you believe that your first semester grades this year can really help you.

Best of luck. Chance back?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1542999-nyu-stern-ed-chances-will-chance-back.html

I def recall the 50th percentage at NEU weighted on a 5.0 scale was between 3.6-4.2/5 in a brochure of NEUs from a college visit. I’m fairly certain that I’ll be accepted there (but not safety school certain) with my scores and credentials. I have no clue where else would I have a chance at, so thus my chance thread.

Anyways, still looking for thoughts on Tufts, Rice, UMiami, maybe even Cornell ED :nervous twitch:

Lets turn those lots of views into lots of comments! I promise to chance back within 12 hours or less. Thanks y’all!

Northeastern University (really big on this), -Match/High Match
UMass-Safetly
Amherst, -REach
University of Virginia-REach
HU-?
Northwestern?-High Reach
Bowdoin,-?
BU, -Low Reach/Match
Colby-?
New York University-Match/Low Reach
Brandeis-Low Reach/Reach
Carnegie Mellon-Reach

Still looking for words on Tufts, Rice med program, UMiami med program, Uconn med program, maybe even Cornell ED. Thanks y’all! I do chance back promptly. Bump!

Nice profile overall… Try to make up for your gpa by putting a lot of work into the essays and study for the ACT! ED for JHU should definitely give you a decent chance, NU is also a low to medium reach.

Thanks for replying to my thread!

Anyway, here’s my opinion:
Northeastern University- match, you should get in no problem
UMass Amherst- if anything you’re overqualified
University of Virginia- mid reach, UVA is getting a lot more stricter!
JHU - high reach if you go RD, mid reach/low match if you go ED
Northwestern - low reach for ED and high reach for RD
Bowdoin- reach (don’t know much about the school, had to google stats)
BU- match/high match
Colby- low reach
New York University- match/high match (if you can afford it…)
Brandeis- match
Carnegie Mellon- mid reach

Overall, If you could apply to all of these schools without your GPA I think you would get in no problem. That’s your main thing holding you back, but hopefully most of the universities you apply to look at what you’ve done instead of what you haven’t!

Good luck!

Well, using that already established list–
Colby: match
Brandeis: reach
Northeastern:match
Umass:safety
BU:safety
NYU:low each
Carnegie Mellon: reach (but this is a given for practically everyone).
UVA: low reach
JHU: reach (again, tough school)

Northwestern: reach (see above)

–
You’ve got some great EC’s (that are well focused and not splattered all over the place) and a rigorous course schedule. Test scores are strong… A lot of people do better on the ACT though, so if you can get a 32+ on that… you’ll be in good shape. It’s kind of funny though-- you did the exact same thing I did. I tanked in my math courses and it brought my GPA waay down. But I think you have solid chances nonetheless.

Best of luck to you!

You’re a match for everything except Northwestern, Hopkins, UVA and Carnegie Mellon.

I’d say your SAT is good enough for Northeastern, your #1 choice. And don’t sweat the Bs in Math; it’s not your strong suit, and you challenged yourself. Harvard might not like them, but everything else will be more accommodating.

Thanks for the replies guys! Keep them coming. I get the general gist of how my original list might turn out; can any/a few of you give a chance or two to some other schools I considered looking at?

-Tufts (I’m visiting, hopefully doing diversity visits…etc)
-UMiami Med program
-Cornell ED
-Rice
-Georgetown

I’m killing off Bowdoin and UVA from my app, I guess they aren’t exactly the direction Im looking at heading towards.

Thanks!!! Lets turn all these “views” to comments! I do chance back promptly, don’t be afraid to dump a link on me here!

bump! Thoughts on UMiami, Rice, Georgetown, Tufts, Cornell ED (sheesh, half the posts here are mine from bumps…oops)

I’d say you would be a good match for all those schools if wasnt for your GPA. I would say

Brandeis: mid reach
UMASS Amherst: Match(it’s not a very difficult school to get into at all; I’m sure it could be a safety)
Northeast: Mid reach

A couple of these schools are still reaches because of GPA. as in, much lower than their average admitted, and it will be tough except maybe for Mass Amherst. you have a decent chance there but for the others probably pretty reachish

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1555571-chance-me-ill-chance-back.html if you can

With respect to Cornell ED, Tufts, Rice, Georgetown I would say
-I think ED would certainly help you at cornell.
-If you can get your Sat score up that would help you a lot.
-I also was listening to one of the tufts into sessions and they said that if you are someone that will fits there acceptance criteria (average stats on the accepted class) the acceptance rate is close to 100%.
-I think for most these schools ED would help you if you like them enough to apply ED
-otherwise you have good extra circulars and seem and bring a lot to the table.

bump! Still need a few chances at Cornell ED, Tufts, Rice, and georgetown…I do chance back promptly. Debating Cornell ED vs Georgetown EA?

You’re correct in thinking that the GPA issue is the problem precluding you from some of the schools, but since you’re not looking at many Ivies, I’d suggest that you put that worry in the back of your mind; it’s unfounded. There are safeties, reaches, and matches galore in your list, my friend.

Colby: High Match
Brandeis: High Match
Northeastern: Match EA, High Match RD
UMass: Safety
BU:High Match ED, Low Reach RD
NYU:Reach
Carnegie Mellon: Reach
UVA: High Reach
JHU:High Reach
Northwestern: High Reach ED, Out of Range RD

Hope that helps! You’ll get into a bunch of places despite the GPA problem; many colleges will have sympathy for that.

Good luck!

Colby: You will likely be accepted or wait listed RD
Brandeis: You would be accepted ED, might be waitlisted RD (they place emphasis on GPA vs std scores and ED matters a lot there)
Northeastern: Yu will likely get in
UMass: Safety, even RD
BU:You will probably be accepted RD
NYU:Reach, need ED with your GPA
Carnegie Mellon: You probably won’t get in
UVA: You wont get in out of state with your GPA
JHU:High Reach, only chance is ED
Northwestern: You probably wont get in even ED (This school has really gotten popular and picky–a very smart and talented relative with better scores and GPA rejected there RD last year).
