Climate and Cost of attendance is not a concern.
Looking for non-socially dead schools.

Run the Supermatch tool on the left side of this page. With your stats your match schools may also be reaches due to a low %age accepted.

@“Erin’s Dad” Can’t put my ECs in there.

Just for everyone’s reference (and because I have a question) here is the list of (mostly) reaches you had in another thread:

  1. Brown
  2. Cornell
  3. Duke
  4. Yale
  5. Harvard
  6. UPenn
  7. Princeton
  8. Dartmouth
  9. Columbia
  10. Drexel
  11. UT Austin
  12. WUSTL(FA needed)

Two comments and a question. Drexel is the outlier on that list. It is easier to get into than the schools I am going to suggest. Also UT Austin might not provide and FA if that is what you are thinking. A lot of state schools have cut back or eliminated aid to OOS students, much less internationals. But you said no FA needed, yet you say FA needed for WUSTL. Can you explain, please? OK, on to your posted question.

I think Tulane, which I know a lot about, is a good match for you. Their CS major is only recently reborn, but they have a great approach to it where you coordinate it to another major, so it is very application oriented. You can be as inventive as you want in how you match it up, but obvious areas are as varied as finance, econ, music, linguistics, any of the sciences, etc. I can even see people that are interested in history finding ways to apply CS to improvements in the field. Academically I would say you are likely a match, and clearly New Orleans is anything but socially dead.

You can look at Miami (FL) and Boston U, both with similar academic standards and in great cities. A little more selective is University of Southern California, but certainly could be on your list as a matchish school. A lot of these schools have merit scholarships which are substantial, which the Ivies and some other schools either don’t have or limited in. George Washington in DC is another possibility, although I know nothing of their CS.

@fallenchemist Thanks for replying!

WUSTL provides financial aid to international students that’s why I said I needed financial aid at WUSTL and I might also have a good chance getting in there with FA; otherwise I’ll be taking a loan for other colleges.

Another question that might come to your mind could be : Why is he not applying for aid at Princeton etc.?
The answer is because schools like Princeton are highly selective schools and would choose someone else over me who has similar stats and is not applying for aid.

Due to the popularity of CS, many schools which admit by major should be considered one category more difficult for admission than comparison with general admission stats would indicate. For example, a school that may otherwise be considered a match based on general admission stats may actually be a reach for a student applying for the CS major.

OK, so when you say at the beginning of your post “No FA needed”, that is not accurate. How much can your family afford each year? It really is an important factor in recommending realistic schools.

@ucbalumnus Thanks for replying!
Acc. To you which is a more popular major, CS or EE?

@fallenchemist I’ll be applying for FA only at WUSTL.

OK. That makes no sense to me, but let’s operate on that basis.

CS and EE are totally different. What is the significance of comparing their popularity? I don’t have numbers, but I suspect the supply of and the demand for CS is higher.

The rapid rise in the popularity of CS means that many CS departments are full and harder to get into than they used to be.
