hey everyone, i was wondering if you have any suggestions for me:

sat: 1810, hoping to bring it up tomorrow
gpa: 3.7 uw, 3.9w
total of 8 ap classes
decent amount of ec's
i'll be sending art slides with apps
looking to major in something relating to art, visual communications, (art?) education, graphic design, photography/photojournalism etc

colleges on my list:
skidmore
hartwick
geneseo

anyone have any suggestions?
criteria: smallish (a few thousand people), easily accessible town, ability to take courses in a wide range of areas, little to no greek scene/not a party school, a good match for my scores, etc.

yes, i've already looked at emerson and hampshire
about ithaca: i'm under the impression that it's somewhat of a jock/preppy school... can someone clarify/confirm/disprove please?

thanks

Take a look at Goucher College, just outside of Baltimore. It's very similar in terms of student body to Skidmore, but not quite as tough to get into. One nice thing is you're able to cross register for classes at other Baltimore area schools there, including the Maryland Institute and College of Art. You might also take a look at Wheaton College in Mass. - if your test scores don't go up as much as you hope, they have SAT optional admissions. Finally, since you'll be applying to Geneseo, I'd take a shot at some of the other SUNY's as well. SUNY Purchase and SUNY New Paltz would be nice fits for your interests. Good luck tommorrow!!!

bump...anyone else? please?

these are not all smallish, but I recommend them for art and art education:
U Colorado Boulder
George Washington
U of Florida
U of Miami
Northwestern
U Illinois UC
Indiana U Bloomington
U of Iowa
U of Kansas
U Maryland College Park
Boston U
Northeastern
Tufts
U Michigan AA
U Minnesota TC
Hamline
U Missouri Columbia
U Nebraska Lincoln
SUNY Buffalo
SUNY New Paltz
UNC Charlotte
U of Cincinnati
Wittenberg
Penn State UP
Furman
Virginia Commonwealth
Beloit
Lawrence
U Wisconsin Madison

I think you're smart to apply to Hartwick, because they may offer you some good merit $$ with you're academic record. They also have a solid art program. You may also want to look into Bard College, also located in New York.

I think you're smart to apply to Hartwick, because they may offer you some good merit $$ with you're academic record. They also have a solid art program. You may also want to look into Bard College, also located in New York. I would apply early (not early decision...just 'early'...lol) to Hartwick, as they have become quite popular. Probably best to get application in earlier rather than later for best shot at merit $$.

Might look at Trinity or Holy Cross. HC has no greek scene although a Jesuit school like Georgetown, Holy Cross recruits diversity and school is only 1 hour to Boston.

Hartwick is in Oneonta, New York, a fairly working class town. SUCOneonta is a state school known for drinking and their students dominate the town. You can and should do much better...seriously.

Any New York Student should consider how they could get into a state school at Cornell. The Ag school does have communications, but not art. You can take a number of classes in the Arts college. Ithaca College seems to have wealth (based on student cars)

Hamilton used to have a funky art department and it is near the Munson Proctor museum in Utica...not a bad place to spend a few days.

Small upstate privates include Union, in Schenectady, Hobart and William are below Rochester....What about schools like Smith if you are lacking y chromosones.

I disagree w/ the comments regarding Hartwick, and Oneonta. SUCOneonta students do not dominate the town. Hartwick has been attracting a very strong and able student body over the last several years and recently they have invested a lot of money into greatly improving their facilities. They are successfully recruiting highly qualified students and for good reason.....it's a good college on the way up.

have you looked at Wells?

V small but really charming and right near Cornell.

Bowdoin College

any other suggestions? or chances?
