DS is trying to find a perfect amalgamation of characteristics ---

The academic level, honor code, community service emphasis and "nice kids" feel of Davidson, BUT with DIII sports. Any area of the country except the midwest. Time for advice from you pros!!

In the South, maybe Washington & Lee or Rhodes. I'm not as familiar with outside the South, but agree with Haverford. Also possibly Macalester (but it's midwest) and Whitman. There's always the AWS schools, Amherst, Williams and Swarthmore.

Haverford definitely came to my mind, also perhaps Carleton (oh, shoot, that's midwest, sorry!). Swarthmore, then. Maybe Middlebury. The overwhelming feeling I got from all the Wesleyan kids I have met is "nice", but overall the feel of the campus might be different from Davidson.

-The academic level: dont be fooled by its 'ranking,' provides top notch education on par with other top LACs

-Honor code: Big emphasis!

-Community service emphasis: Listed as a "College with a Conscience," vast majority of students actively involved; there is even an interdisciplinary certificate program in community action

-and "nice kids" feel: one of the friendliest campuses i've encountered

-BUT with DIII sports: NESCAC league- one of the best scholar athletic league in the country

another potential northern school....Trinity Col....northern preppies instead of southern preppies at Davidson; I was impressed with the emphasis on community service....being in a poor part of town, seems like the school is trying to do their part to improve the area, so student opportunities abound; D3 sports; kids seemed outgoing & friendly during my visit, and the kids I have know who go there are nice, solid citizens.

Sewanee, Dickinson (many small PA schools, Gettysburg, Bucknell not D-3), Allegheny, Muhlenburg, Susquehanna, F&M,Ursinus, Wash&Jeff...), St Mary's , Loyola, McDaniel, Washington College in Md, Goucher, UMBC(that may not D-3), Mary Washington, Guilford, Elon, Rhodes, some Ohio schools-Kenyon, Wittenberg, Wooster, Oh Wesleyan, Dennison, Ottobein. Lynchburg, Roanoke, Radford in VA. Hartwick, Manhattanville, St Lawrence, Hobart & Wm SmithUnion, Skidmore, Ithaca, in NY. Furman in SC. Depends on the sport and you gotta read up on the atmosphere at each of those schools. Strangely enough, Grove City in Pa reminded me of Davidson, though reading the descrips, the schools are not at all alike. Lots fo nice looking preppy kids that looked all American, an under current of Christianity theme, a strong honor code. GC is a more laid back; Davidson's kids are intense, I thought. GC offers tons of community service stuff.

Knowing how much you love Davidson and what a good job it has done for you, I view this as a big compliment.

There are many similarities. Large out of state contingent (77% at Rhodes), huge emphasis on community service, and a big dog Honor Code school. Not to mention what appears to be a Draconian grading system that leaves few unscathed. Yep, a D3 Davidson about 1/2 size, that's not a bad write-up.

I'd also think that the same people who would like Davidson might consider Sewanee, Denison, maybe DePauw, certainly Centre.

(I will say that although I am a big booster of some of these schools and Rhodes, Davidson students on average do have the burner turned up a little higher IMO.)

The problem will be matching Davidson's academic level as it's a top 10 LAC. You'll get more people to read your posts if you provide a more descriptive title such as "Looking for a college with DIII sports similar to Davidson."

it was a compliment; my brother, 'hubbell-lite" hopes to go there, it is his first choice. BTW, curmudge, I will attending med school back home in our beloved Texas, and I hope your daughter will return home as well for her medical studies when the time approaches. The TMDSAS med school application process is interesting-a bit different than the way the rest of the country does it.

Hello, Texans, what about Trinity in Texas? I don't know a soul who went or visited there, so I can't personally say, but the write ups about that school look mighty good to me.

Hubbell is friom that area (Trinity) , I'll let him answer first.

As to D and med school , she is certainly hoping to come home . Y'all will have several good choices in Texas. Two top twenty schools ain't bad.

Oh, and I'd watch how I refer to my lil' bro

If he reads the board, I might sleep with a knife under the pillow for the first week or so at Christmas. ;)

Curmudge is right, I am from San Antonio and I am quite familiar with Trinity. It is a very good school, several kids from my high school attend every year. It is very close to downtown San Antonio. Very nice campus, excellent academics, probably the premier school of its size in Texas(I am not counting Rice-that is on another level). I would have nothing negative to say about it.

Brother and I get along well, we just have different interests and our abilities are in different areas. He has no interest in following in his pa's and bro's footsteps. In fact, he says he wants to be a personal injury lawyer and make a living filing lawsuits against us!!(the richest people in San Antonio, outside of Spurs players, are personal injury lawyers)
