Looking for Summer PreCollege Abroad ideas

My son is a junior in high school living in San Francisco and hoping for a summer abroad program where he can get a feel for art school and maybe get a start on his portfolio. I have only read one post regarding Parson's art program, I would like to hear further about their program and any others anyone knows about. If not an abroad program then he will likely choose to go to school in New York for the summer as this will be the biggest change from SF. Any suggestions on either fronts? This is a very mature kid who will enjoy getting off on an adventure and further his art interest. Thanks in advance.

If you did a search you probably already saw this thread where I comment on Parsons summer program.

I really don't recommend it as getting a good feel for attending art school. I know several of my daughter's friends went to Parsons NY, Pratt, and MICA. All had great experiences. Her current college (SVA) has a summer program in NYC that is quite reasonably priced. Her high school (Walnut Hill in Natick, MA) has a summer visual arts program that includes a week in Florence, Italy. Though an independent 17 year old might find it to constraining.
