looking for the perfect fit...I'M VERY PICKY!

so here's the deal. i can't make up what i want to study! i've got two options that i KNOW i really want to do but i can't decide which one. here are the options:

1) i've always thought it would be awesome to be a hollywood movie producer, therefore i was thinking along the lines of film production/film business/cinema studies as my major.

2) also, working for the UN or being an international lawyer has recently crossed my mind and it would be really interesting because i love to travel. therefore i was thinking about doing international relations.

i'd love to double major in the two fields, but so far, i've only found USC (in cali, not carolina) as a suitable option. anyone have any other suggestions?

I'D REALLY APPRECIATE IT! THANKS SO MUCH!

USC is probably the top film school in the country, so you'd better be good if you want into their program.

Maybe look at Northwestern University if you have the stats to get in. They have an International Studies program and a good film program. (Actually, I'm sitting in a Northwestern dorm right now, about to go help with a film production. They have a summer film program I'm attending.)

thanks for the reply! well i'm interested in their business program with an emphasis on cinema and television, but i'm not sure if it's affiliated with the film school.

but yes i'll go check out NU! not sure if i'm good enough tho...

Rather than such a specialized major, you might want something like a Communications major. It's more compatible with more things, and it might make a double major with IR a little easier. Honestly, to get into movie producing, you don't need to have a top notch degree like you would for a lawyer position, so focus more on the IR major.

would i be best just sticking with a business degree? i've heard that movie producing is all about that these days....

Look at this thread...

and this

My advice is to go to the best film school. If you get a law degree they won't care what your major is, on the other hand if you want to go into film going to a top film school matters very much. The best school for hollywood film is USC, closely followed by UCLA. Weslayan and NYU also top notch but clearly more new york film focused. However many alums of NYU and Wesleyan do very well in Hollywood. Also Vassar college tends to have many successful grads in film. Finally, its hard to go wrong with the Ivies. Harvard, Yale, Columbia, and Brown tend to do extremely well in hollywood with the others doing well (Dartmouth, Princeton, Penn, Cornell).

slipper1234,

i really got a lot out of your reply to my post asking about film schools. would you by any chance be willing to sort me out of confusion? well, if you are, would i need to go to film school even if it's only for film production/financial/business side of things? or could i just stick with a business degree and get a minor in a liberal arts-based film major? sorry, it's just i'm very confused because i'm not really interested in becoming a director, or writing scripts, or working with cinematography. anyway, thanks a lot!
