On Cornell's housing application I have the option to show a preference for Balch Hall, which is a female-only dorm. (Yes, I am female.) I was wondering if anybody here had thoughts on or experience with living in an all-girls dorm vs. a coed dorm? Has anybody lived in Balch? I'd love to hear what you thought of it.

Do you think they tend to be quieter, more isolating, cleaner, or have more/less drama, etc?

Thanks!

My D is in Balch this year, and has the largest dorm room I’ve ever seen. She hasn’t really seen any advantage or disadvantage to it being all-female. She feared there would be a lot of drama when she learned her assignment, but that hasn’t been the case. It is an older dorm, but she really loves the architecture and has had a good experience. It’s the closest (North) dorm to the campus, but one of the farthest from the near-by dining halls.

Thanks for the input :)
