Looking for Top Colleges with Scholarship

I am an International Student looking for a good ranked university with scholarship.
I wish to pursue Computer Science.

SAT Score: 2330 (800 M, 800 W, 730 CR)

SAT II Score: 2380 (800 Math, 800 Chem, 780 Phy)

Grades: All A+ from grade 9-11. Mid-Sem grades in 12th also all A+.

Predicted Grades for grade 12: Very very high (Almost 100)

Class Rank: NA. But my teacher told she has mentioned that I am in the top 1% in my school.

Recomm: Computer Teacher's LOR should be excellent. Counsellor's would be very good.

ECs: All 10 sections of CommonApp are stuffed. National and International Level wins (since my country is quite small, national wins won't matter much).

Leadership: President Student Council in my school.

My parents are ready to afford upto 30-40K. They might even pay more if the University is very prestigious.

I have currently applied to University of Southern California and have already been accepted in University of Minnesota at Twin Cities (still awaiting scholarship).

Please recommend me some other good universities where I may get a decent scholarship.

Apply to University of Alabama asap. You would get a full tuition scholarship plus $2500 a year, I believe…with your stats as a computer, science major. But get moving…the application is due December 15…it’s online and easy to do.

If you are looking for merit awards, you may have missed some deadlones already. Many schools have December 1 deadlones for their best merit awards.

There is a pinned thread above about scholarships…and in it full tuition and full ride awards. You will have to check to see if they apply to international students…and if you have missed the deadlines for applying.

can your parents pay $40,000 per YEAR…or $40,000 total for all four years?

Rice has some scholarships, but they’re tough to get. Same with Duke and Vandy.

You should definitely get a fair amount of merit money from Case Western and Rochester.

You may be able to get some from UMich and UT-Austin (though I don’t know if it is too late for merit money).

Assuming that you applied on time at those places, though.

http://www.finaid.umich.edu/home/howtoapplyforaid/internationalstudents.aspx

VERY limited aid for international students at University of Michigan.

Case Western deadline for, scholarships, looks to be January 15.

@thumper1‌

My parents can pay $40,000 per year.

I have already applied to U-Mich, but haven’t filled out my scholarship profile yet. The link you have suggested makes no mention of merit schoalrships. Do Int’l applicants also have to fill out the ‘Scholarship Profile’?

@PurpleTitan‌

Could you provide some more information on the scholarships by Duke and Rice?
I have searched their website but couldn’t come across the aid for Int’l students.

BTW, Thanks a lot for your help :)

With the Duke and Rice scholarships, there might not be separate application forms. They either give them to you or not. In any case, they would be hard to get.

UMich may not provide much fin aid to internationals, but I imagine that all/most merit scholarships would be open to them. However, I thought you had to get your app and everything off to them pretty early in the process to be competitive for them?

I had applied to UMich on around 22nd October.
Is there any special form I should fill out to be considered for scholarship?

Look on the Michigan website. The school has a very small number of highly competitive scholarships for incoming freshmen. Even U.S. out of state citizens often do not get chosen for these awards.

Yeah
Found it.

Thanks again

Howard University has full ride scholarships. Apply ASAP

If you did not apply to Purdue, it is too late for their merit scholarships as it has the same deadline as EA. For UMich, you may be able to get some but it would likely not to bring the cost down to $30-$40k as the CoA is $55-$60k per year. Only a few scholarships require additional application there. The typical amount for large scholarships are $20k/year for oos students but $8k-$10k for in state. There are at least dozens of them every year and they will be automatically considered with EA application. The even bigger ones are rare and are highly competitive.

UMich and UTexas rarely gives much/any merit to int’ls.

I know that you say that your parents can pay $30-40k per year. Unless they already have that money saved and secure in a bank, I wouldn’t use THAT number as my net cost amount. Figure that there may be a year or two where coming up with that money will be impossible…or that there will be school expenses that you hadn’t realized…

Some issues you may not have fully realized:

$2500 per year for health insurance,

Int’l travel costs will be about $3k-4k be year (one way tix at beginning and end of school year…shuttles back and forth to airports) Students often underestimate this cost.

Pocket money ~ Job opportunities are rare for int’ls, even on campus. Your visa limits where you can work and the number of hours.

Every year families have unexpected expenses that can throw a curve as to how much they can pay. Since you’re an int’l, you may suddenly have a relative that needs money or medical treatment and some of your parents’ money may need to go towards that. We see this EVERY year here on CC. Then kids have to try to transfer, and transfers rarely get the aid they need.

What schools are you applying to that you know FOR SURE that you will get a good amount of merit to bring costs down to what your parents can pay?

@thumper1 is right…apply to Alabama this weekend. The app is super easy. You’d get free tuition.

What about Auburn? I was going to suggest Elon, but you missed the deadline. Duke is mostly from the Robertson and you have missed that one too. Most of Vanderbilt is either passed or are due 12/15, but you need recomm due then too…tight!

I forgot to include:

Since you’re a CS major, not only would Alabama give you free tuition, but also $2500 per year…total value: Over $110k. Your family’s remaining costs would be well under $20k…including health insurance.

Thanks @mom2collegekids‌

Those are clearly some of the expenditures I didn’t consider beforehand.

And yes, I have applied to Alabama. Thanks a lot for your help :)
