<p>I’ve travelled in SA with family, but not on a program. I will say that SA is a great place for English-speakers to visit. Many South Africans speak at least two languages, and most speak English. Linguistically it is easy to navigate. However, it is still a challenge culturally which gives you a great opportunity to learn and grow. There are good universities in Cape Town and in Grahamstown; I’m not that familiar with facilities in other locations. On your off time, there is plenty to do (even within a very small area). Travel is pretty cheap and youth hostels are plentiful. You definitely have to be aware of your personal safety - I know two people who have been mugged at knifepoint, for example. So even though I am completely unable to speak to the academic aspect of your question, I’ll enthusiastically recommend that you get to SA one way or another.</p>

my school is working with stellenbosch, nelson mandela metropolitan, & cape town. can anyone give insight on these three?
i don’t have a particular set of courses i’d like to study, but my interests are in geography, economics, computers, and anything culture-oriented</p>

<p>My son spent a semester at the U of Cape Town last year. He had an amazing experience there and would do it again in a minute!</p>
