<p>I still have warm memories from attending this event during our son's freshman year ...
We attended classes as a family, enjoyed time at the suite, ate out in Rice Village -- and spent time with some great parents I met here at this forum and have since stayed in touch with! It was our third visit to campus after Owl Days and Move-In -- and it truly validated our sense that our son had made the right choice! It was so nice to see where he studied in the library and to meet the new friends he'd made. And, it was just great being around lots of friendly and wise Owls!</p>
<p>This will be my first time back on campus since my son’s freshman year. Soph/ junior years, we didn’t go to Families Weekend – we don’t live in Texas, and airfares and hotel add up fast. A few of his suitemates’ parents were buzzing around the suite and I could sense a bit of homesickness. I like to send Priority Mail flat rate packages stuffed with favorite snacks, and I timed packages to arrive right before these weekends. Hardly the same as all the joyous hugs, but he knew we were there with him in spirit.</p>
<p>We’ll miss this year’s Family Weekend. Our junior son asked us to make our visit in November instead. That works well since he’ll be coming home for the midterm break in October and probably staying on campus for Thanksgiving. We didn’t really participate in very many campus activities anyway, just the football game. It’s really about spending some time with him.</p>
