Pitt main was my second choice. The number one choice for me, Ohio University, gave me a fair amount of scholarship/grant money, but the cost of attendance was still very steep (out of state school for me, a PA resident).

Well I live about 7 miles south of downtown Pittsburgh and have been around/toured Pitt's campus, I also got a few friends that attend there, and I feel it just may be my calling. Not to mention my debt after graduation will be several thousands cheaper... so i'm thinking about taking the Pitt route now. Only problem is, they denied me a few months ago.

So would anyone happen to know what it takes to transfer to the main campus from a branch campus? I would probably be going to Pitt-Johnstown. I was thinking the standard is 2 years, but is it possible to transfer after just 1? Also, if anyone reading this has attended UPJ/has any thoughts on the whole transfer thing feel free to share... thanks. I still haven't toured UPJ but will be doing so this upcoming week.

Wellllll I guess noone knows since most people here are only familiar with the main campus, but it’s alright. Pretty sure it’s 2 years, i’ll end up saving some money those first 2 years anyway, since main’s tuition is higher/I won’t get a scholarship.

I’m sure someone at Pitt will be able to council you about transferring to main. I think a lot of UPJ students end up staying because they like it, so you might not want to in a year or so anyway. It is a pretty good school in its own right and is ranked in US News north bacc regionals. Congrats though on becoming a Panther, UPJ Mountain Cats are the same species anyway!

Thanks, I’m saying now that I want to transfer to main since it is much closer to home (7 miles as opposed to 80 miles), I got a bunch of friends that go there, and I actually like the urban campus/area. Not to mention i’ve been a huge fan of Pitt football/basketball all my life, my dad used to work right by the campus (as a manager for the Wines & Spirits store on atwood street actually, haha), and while UPJ seems like a good school, Pitt main is where it’s at in terms of opportunities/academics. But yeah I agree, I could end up staying at UPJ all 4, i’ll just have to see how it goes.

FYI, I think you can get student football tickets at UPJ. They used to run a shuttle to Pittsburgh for games, but I don’t know if they still do that anymore. In any case, if you end up wanting to transfer, and you keep your grades up to whatever minimum is required, I’m sure you’ll be able to. Just make sure to talk to the right people to make sure you stay on top of the things you’ll need to do to transfer smoothly.

ill see how it goes, thanks.

Can I have an update on what happened?? I’m in the same situation! Please please please! I would really appreciate it!

If anyone has further questions about the Options program, I encourage you to call the Office of Admissions at the campus where you have been admitted. More information and contacts for each regional campus’ Office of Admissions are listed on this flyer: http://oafa.pitt.edu/pdf/OptionsProgramFlyer.pdf

Procedures and requirements for transferring vary from one campus and program to another, so it would be best for you to call and have a conversation about your specific situation if you have questions.
