Okay, I'm not really familiar with the American academic calendar and my mum has booked for us to go and look round some colleges (Yale, Dartmouth, Brown, Amherst, Williams) in late July..is that a good time to go? Will I be able to get a tour etc?

Thanks.

Check the admissions websites for these colleges for times of tours and whether you need to register in advance. Depending on what year you are, you should also check into arranging interviews.

It is usually preferable to visit colleges during the school year when students are present, you can sit in on classes, etc. If summer is the only time you can visit, then you can still get sufficient information to decide if you like a college or not.
