I go to a very rigorous private catholic school in NY, no APs offered but i'm still taking the hardest courses offered. I have a 90/100 UW GPA. SATs are weak but taking them again CR-540 M-600 Wr-580, and ACT is a 30. For EC's im in 4 clubs. some community service, NHS, and am going to Boys State this summer, and im white.
I'm looking at schools with a good engineering program, so far looking at:
Villanova, Lehigh, Lafayette, Bucknell, BU, and Manhattan(Safety)

Anyone have some good Reaches/Matches/Safeties?

Looking for a private school, strong in engineering, indifferent about greek life, less than 10,000 undergrads maybe, and can be anywhere in NE, PA, VA, MD, NC, Delaware, DC, etc. Or anwhere else really the ones stated above would be nice though.

Your ACT score is good, but I agree that retaking the SAT might improve your chances at some of the schools you mentioned. Remember, if your new SAT scores don’t improve, you don’t have to send both the SAT and ACT scores.

As things stand right now, I think Lehigh, Villanova, Lafayette, and Bucknell are slight reaches. You could add URochester and WPI as other candidates in this class.

BU is probably a match, but it’s bigger than your ideal size campus. Drexel (also >10K undergrads) and Clarkson are a couple others to consider. SUNY-Binghamton, though public, might be a good match at a lower cost.

Put some time into identifying a couple safeties where you’d be happy to attend if you didn’t get in ANY of your other choices (it happens). Not very familiar with safety-level schools in your area, but going further afield, you might consider Miami University, Valpo, Dayton, Evansville, and Bradley. All would serve you well in engineering, and being from out of the area would likely increase your chances of admittance.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Knowitsome hit your situation right on the head, and yes, you are basically identical to me. Click on my name and go through my threads for some more ideas, like possibly Union or Case Western. Good Luck!
