<p>I just got accepted into UCSC as an incoming transfer student and since I found out that incoming transfer students have to live together at Porter, I thought it would be nice to get to know some of those people before hand. I'm hoping it will make the close quarter living arrangements easier.</p>

<p>I was too. I really wanted to live in an apt in kresge/porter and I was so hummed when I found out transfers can’t affiliate with porter. But at least we live in that area of campus which is nice. I think it will be a lot easier to meet people as well.</p>

<p>dvhaves I actually received my AA out of state and have only been down here since last March, but used to live in Santa Cruz when I was younger. I graduated HS ages ago. I think I may possibly be the oldest of this group. 27!</p>
<p>I’m 24 and I’m coming from Santa Rosa which is about an hour north of SF. I agree with you guys, I hope there are some serious students too. I love the idea of being sociable and having a good time as long as it doesn’t get in the way of my grades which will be easier to do with other like-minded students.</p>
<p>I have to admit that I do love the idea of the transfer community (more like-minded people that have gotten 2 years of screwing around out of the way but I dont like that we have to be housed at Porter. It just means that when I switch over to my affiliated college (Cowell) that I’ll be leaving a lot of my new found friends and that I’ll be trying to make friends at Cowell that have already had a whole trimester of bonding with each other. Kinda seem likes its putting those of us who aren’t affiliated with Porter into a tricky situation. I thought it would have been better to have a transfer community within each college campus, like devote a floor to us or something. That way we wouldn’t have to move part way through the year and we’d already be comfortable with our college mates and surroundings.</p>
<p>that makes sense too. but think about it like now you will get to make two groups of friends instead of just one. you get to meet other transfer AND people from cowell. ps, HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT COLLEGE YOU ARE AFFILIATED WITH ALREADY?!?!?!?</p>
