Looking to sophomore transfer.

Hello,

I'm currently a freshman at Bentley University. I started first semester Fall '11. However, I am looking to transfer schools for Fall '12 sophomore year. I will only be applying to two schools: Harvard and Wharton. It's all or nothing for me.

The transfer applications for these schools are due on March 1st 2012. That means I will only have completed one semester and will be in the middle of the second semester when applications are due. Will these schools then only consider my first semester GPA? I am working hard on keeping the 4.0 Also, do high school GPA and SAT scores matter?

Is anyone familiar with the transfer process that can answer my questions?

Thank you.

You will probably be required to submit a mid term report for next semester…

If you actually want to transfer I can suggest some schools that you have a real shot of getting into unless your just applying to give it a shot.

What schools do I have a shot in transferring to? I had a 2300 SAT, im president of residence hall association, and vice president of student gov at Bentley. I also got 5’s on 8 AP exams. I only went to Bentley because they gave me a trustee full tuition scholarship. But, it’s getting too easy for me and i’m looking for a more challenging school.

lol how the hell are you vice president of the student body if you’re a freshman?

Yes, your high school transcripts and SAT scores will be considered because you only have one semester of grades to look at. You should also ask the admissions counselors if they would want a progress report for the spring semester - some schools consider them, others don’t.

You’ll certainly want to hold as close to a 4.0 as you can for both semesters. If you finish your spring semester off badly, they can revoke their offers. That’s not to say that you’ll be accepted on the condition of keeping a 4.0, but if you get a 3.0 in the spring they might wonder if you just slacked off or that the fall semester’s 4.0 was just a fluke.

Not having a perfect SAT score is an automatic ding for harvard and penn…

But in all seriousness you have good stats but so does everyone else do something to distinguish yourself.

You will be sending in a mid-semester report. It’s nothing too intense, just a sheet of paper where professors mark the class and its information, along with your current grades and optional comments. My advice: go to a professor you think will comment first. I wound up with all of my professors leaving comments, even if they were simple comments of the semi-generic “exceptional student” variety.

As a sophomore transfer, yes, your high school GPA and SAT scores do count, especially since you haven’t had much time at college yet. Clubs/ activities from junior year are still considered, too. That said, do strive for as close to a 4.0 as possible the entirety of your first year, and do your best to become close to your professors so you can get the best letters of rec possible.

Crap my high school transcript will be looked at? Damn I was hoping to start anew in college. I have excellent standardized test scores and activities, but a not so good transcript. Do you think I will need to request for my high school to send my transcript in? Or will I just need to report my high school GPA. My GPA is fine (4.1) but theres a “C” grade lying in there from AP Chem so I don’t want them seeing my whole transcript, just my GPA.
