Looking to transfer! Currently at UMDCP

A little about me:
- Born and raised in a South American country.
- Moved around the continent before I came to the U.S.
- Education in U.S. started in Middle School (6th Grade)
- First in family to attend college in the U.S. (entire family)
- Econ Major

I am currently a sophomore at UMDCP and looking to transfer (hopefully to a more prestigious school) due to the simple fact that I really dislike this university. I am under tuition remission right now but money is not an issue for my family, additionally, my father's work will pay half of the total college expenses. I like the structure that this university has but its just simply not for me, I can't even provide a list of the things that I like with the exception of the quad that I currently reside in.

I didn't really take HS seriously so I had a relatively low GPA and SAT scores.
I am not really happy here, therefore, the lack of motivation has left me with a college GPA of around 3.05, which will hopefully see an upward trend after this semester.

I would really want to get into a school like Georgetown or NYU but I understand that I need at least a 3.3. So what do you guys think I should do? Raise my grades and apply or take a shot now. What other recommendations would you guys give me regarding schools?

your cumulative college GPA needs to be around a 3.5 for those schools. Make sure you have good ECs and good recommendations and apply to a few safety schools because you don’t want to end up empty handed.

I understand that those schools are highly selective. I will probably stay here another year to increase my GPA since I really don’t want to apply to another state school that is on the same level as UMD.
