Hi, I'm a HS senior who has interest in UVA. I plan on majoring in business during college.
I just need to know whether graduating from UVA with a 3.5+ is possible for all students using hard work, motivatin, and office tutorings. Is it? How many undergraduates graduate with above 3.5 GPA?

And how's the grading system at the university too?

It’s very much possible.

[UVa - Undergraduate Grade Point Averages](http://www.web.virginia.edu/IAAS/data_catalog/institutional/data_digest/acad_gpa.htm)

As of the end of Spring 2008, the average 4th year Comm. School student GPA was approx. 3.51.

The average for a 4th year A&S student, as of the same time period, was 3.21

Grading varies between schools and departments. I thought it was pretty fair, and not overly inflationary or deflationary, but I’m basing this on my experience alone.

However, keep in mind that transferring to UVA as a third year (“junior”) and into a business program/Commerce School will be very difficult. You will need to have completed all the pre-req courses, do very well in them and have demonstrated that you possess leadership skills through activities, internships, work, etc. However, UVA’s econ. program is also strong and it is in the Arts and Sciences college where the competition generally isn’t as stiff for transfer applicants.

How possible is it for a HS underachiever to do very well in College in the PreReq. courses and get As & adding leadership on the resume? I have yet to be in college so I cannot pre-determine my field in business until I see which one I like the best.

That depends on a lot of factors…which school you go to, the strength of the program you are presently in, your professors, the type of academic support you will have from TA’s or classmates, your motivation (choosing work at times when you’d rather play), etc.

Depending on what school you come from though, you are probably going to want to have at LEAST a 3.5+ GPA to transfer with. You will be competing against a range of students, from those who have been to community college and other VA state schools (which includes W&M and VT) to those from top private schools (Georgetown, Ivy League).

I’m probably going to CUNY Baruch if I get accepted on April 1st. The school is well reputated for its business program. So would it help?

As for socially keeping connected with your peers Life-After UVA, how difficult will it be if you enter as a Junior?

I moved in last fall with a totally random group of 5 other people and have formed very tight bonds with them… I feel like so much happens here and you go through so much together you will more than likely form friendships that will last well beyond your college years :)
