Hi, I’m currently a first year student at Elon University, and have a perfect gpa from first semester, and should for our winter sessions also. I had issues in high school making grades for the first years due to concussions keeping me out 4+ months at a time. And while my grades did improve senior and junior year it was a little late. For that reason I couldn’t get into all the schools I wanted to.
So now looking to transfer I’m curious what level of college I could realistically be looking at with a perfect record at all be it not the best, but not an awful University.
My high school stats were super bad to begin but they are excused at least to an extent by my medical documents. Overall I showed a lot of progression in high school and was hoping doing so in college might help my story.
First, based on your results, it appears that you have found a great school in Elon.
Second, what do you want to study.
Third, budget ?
Fourth, and most important, why do you want to transfer ? And why to School X in particular ?
Right now I’m doing buisness management and political science.
Budget isn’t an issue.
Personally the school is to big on partying for me, not that I want to go to a religious school it’s just Elon is turning into a big party school for sure. Also I want a school that is more challenging for me, I didn’t do any work first semester and breezed through.
I have a lot of schools on my list im just not sure how high I can reach/ how much high school will affect me
Based on what you’ve indicated, you should probably submit an application to the University of Richmond.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Elon is a terrific school and you’re knocking the cover off the ball.
But there are all kinds of schools out there and a great freshman year coupled with your hs record won’t hurt at all.
Richmond was actually my first choice coming out of high school haha
Honestly, I’m concerned you didn’t do much work at Elon to earn your grades. I’d think the assignments in at least some classes there would be varied and deep, even if the exams did not challenge you.
I had one class which I enjoyed where I actually did work the others were just so easy that I could do any assignments quickly and tests and still get 98-100’s idk. Granted a lot of kids in these classes struggled. And nothing against my professors I really enjoyed my politics class, but the others at least were just easy as can be.
Then it seems you would benefit from a more academically engaging environment, @Lbm.
Yeah I def agree, and I knew that going into this year also. Thanks for responses
You may want to consider an array of colleges in much the same you might have as a high school student. For example, your standardized scoring will still impact your admission prospects (and may indicate your level of academic preparation), so you might want to concentrate on colleges at which your scores roughly comport with the profiles of attending students.
