Currently, I am a freshman at Loyola University New Orleans. While it is a great school, I am starting not to like it. I almost attended Seton Hall University to study International Relations, but I reasoned that Loyola was a better choice, due to the costs and my doubts about studying IS/IR - although Seton Hall gave me a pretty decent scholarship. Maybe, I'm just homesick, but I keep getting the feeling that this just might not be the school for me. For years, I reasoned that I wanted to attend school far away from home (north or northeast), but prior to making my final decision in May, I reasoned that maybe staying close to home would be the best option for my first year. So, I am really thinking about transferring elsewhere. I am considering public universities, like Temple University and the University of Pittsburgh, and private schools such as Boston College, Seton Hall University, or BU. Does anyone have any insight as to what I should do? I would greatly appreciate your help.

Do NOT cut ties with your current school until you see any financial aid offers from any transfer schools.

You may have gotten a scholarship offer from SHU as an incoming frosh, but it’s unlikely that they’d give you the same offer as a transfer.

Transfers often do NOT get good aid offers.

Is PA your home state? If not, then Temple and Pitt won’t likely give you good offers either. What is your home state?

How much are you paying to attend Loyola? Will your parents pay more for you to go elsewhere?

What exactly do you not like about Loyola?

Again, don’t cut ties with Loyola until you’ve seen any offers.

There is a whole forum just for transfer applicants.
Thank You so much, both of you! I finished my first semester, and I honestly do not dislike it as much as I did before. Perhaps, I was just homesick.
