anyone notice that the uk schools all had black and white headshots vs the american schools? i lolled…i know that trend in headshots has already gone over here, but there’s something striking about them all lined up on the site like that.

^ I definitely noticed!! I’m a photographer, so it jumped out at me. Take away the color and you notice so much more–form, line, light, expression–and there’s less of the obvious digital editing (e.g., overly vivid blue eyes). That said…the color head shots really pull in the viewer, in my opinion, and provide crucial information. Interesting distinction!

I think the reason why most people use color headshots is the fact that it’s more versatile to submit for both theatre and film/tv. it’s like how more and more people are using landscape printed shots nowadays

I’m sure you’re right, and also bear in mind that since the digital revolution, it’s much easier and cheaper to shoot and reproduce color headshots than in the past. If I were a casting agent, I’d want to see color if at all possible, and now it’s much more affordable.

TheatreFish - I can tell you that Coastal Carolina has a true variety of types, including “quirky” types. And just FYI, I was at their Maymester staged readings on Saturday and was once again reminded about how terrific their acting training is. They did both a musical and a play for Maymester this year and both casts were terrific. And I heard nothing but great things about the creative teams that were brought in year.
