<p>Hey, I’m currently a sophomore at Loomis, I’ll try my best to answer your questions.</p>
<p>1) There are usually weekend parties in the SNUG (cafe downstairs from the dining hall). Sometimes performers/entertainers are invited to do shows, i.e. just this last weekend there was an “iPod man” who could sing any pop song.</p>
<p>2) Depends on how many classes you’re taking. Also if you’re a freshman or new sophomore you get study halls that take up some of your frees. Usually you should have about 2 frees per day if your taking a normal course load (6 classes: 5 academic and one elective). </p>
<p>3) Again this varies depending on what courses you are taking. If your taking honors course typically you’ll get more homework. Also some teachers give more homework than others. There are two hour study halls every night for underclassmen, but it’s expected that you should take more time to do your work (during your frees, etc.)</p>
<p>4) Yep. Usually the only time I use it is to buy materials at the school store.</p>
<p>4) On weekdays lights out is at 11 and you should be in your room by 10:45. If you need more time to do work you can ask for late nights. On weekend nights there isn’t lights out though (expect to hear people up until 3 in the morning on Fridays).</p>
<p>5) Pretty easy honestly. Since LC is right next to town you can ask for permission anytime as long as it’s before it dark.</p>

<p>1) Yeah you’ll find couples sitting around campus pretty often. When it comes down to dating Loomis is pretty much like any other normal school.</p>
<p>2) Usually teachers will use percentages that convert into a GPA on the scale of 4.3 (which is an A+).</p>
<p>3) I’m a new sophomore but I adjusted pretty easily, so for a freshman it should be easier since the social circles haven’t formed yet. Honestly the best way to make friends is to just be yourself and socialize. Don’t be shy and join whatever your interested in, whether its a sports team, theatre, clubs, or music.</p>
<p>4) The dorms are pretty big. Typically there’s room for a desk, mini-fridge (:D), wardrobe, closet, couch with a good amount of room left. Some dorms have larger rooms than others, but you shouldn’t feel at all claustrophobic while your in your dorm.</p>
<p>5) There are singles, doubles, and triples. My dorm has mostly singles with a couple doubles. Some dorms have a mixture and some have mostly singles. </p>
<p>6) There’s a dorm bathroom on every floor with two showers.</p>
<p>2) Yes, teachers do use percentages, but they also use letter grades. When you receive your official mid-term and term grades, they come in the letter format.
Loomis does not calculate a GPA, so there is no scale that we use at school, and students are not ranked.</p>
<p>3) It is extremely easy to make friends! As a new student there are orientation programs such as LCMI, Ropes Course, and the Sophomore Retreat. Many students join the class Sophomore year, so this Retreat enables both new and returning students, border and day students, to meet one another. As Freshmen there is a Peer Counseling program where students are placed in groups with two Junior/Senior leaders who meet with the group throughout the year.</p>

<p>Loomis does use GPA’s, but they are only shown to the student at the end of spring term (thus allowing the school to assign honor roll (3.0 and above) and high honor roll (3.5 and above). The letter grades go up by .33 i.e. a B+ is equivalent to a 3.33</p>

any of you know how large the class of '12 is? ie, think they’ll be taking a good number of kids next year?</p>

<p>Well I had my interview with the director, and first off he’s awesome. Secondly, they plan on taking about 120 kids.</p>
<p>Hi, I spoke with someone in admissions and I can give you the numbers from last year: about 1370 applications were received and roughly 35% were accepted. Things are expected to be pretty similar to last year.</p>
<p>Does you school use the “harkenss table” or similar classroom setting for the humanities/history/english classes?</p>

<p>Yes, the Harkness Method is used for our English, History, and Psychology/Philosophy/Religion classes. This is a wonderful way for students to direct classroom discussion and to make the most of the material at hand. With the wide array of students from many different countries, states, and backgrounds, it is interesting to sit in class and learn from many different perspectives.</p>
