I am applying to Loomis Chaffee this fall as a sophmore boarder. Can you tell me about Loomis if you are a parent, student, friend of a student, ect and tell me if the person you know likes it there. How is the staff? Academics? Athletics? Things like that. Any positive or negative feedback would be appreciated!

Average class size 14. That is higher than average boarding school(12). Average SSAT is 78%, acceptance rate is a bit high(39%), and day students percentage is a bit high 40%. check it out at

Don't listen to boarding school review. All their stuff is outdated. I would guess acceptance is now in 30-35 range, SSAT in the 80's (mid), but their are still a lot of day students. You should definitely still apply. Loomis is my favorite boarding school, and I'm probably going to apply there too.

No, boarding school review has been updated this year and it reflects the latest data, and you can listen to that. It was confirmed by boarding school review.

Yeah, Loomis is pretty well rounded of a school. They have a good arts and music program, have very good academics, and also have very good sports teams.

That is right. Loomis on boarding school review reflect last year's data.

However most of schools profile have been updated this year July(July 2008).
I dob't know hwy Loomis profile has not been updated.
I like to give a fair and correct information to the people in this forum.

When you check boarding school review, yoy'd better check the last update
date at the bottom of the page.

Well it doesn't say how much is updated either. They could've just changed one tiny thing. There's really no way to know what the SSAT scores schools like but to either try and find it on their web site (a few say what their range is) or call the school.

Another BSR inaccuracy: George School endowment is quoted as $77 million, as it has been for the past 18 months! Clearly, this figure doesn't reflect the $128.5 million given to the school by B. Anderson in Sept '07.

LC parent here ... S is a senior day student; started as a sophomore. He likes it a lot. As parents, we're pleased with the academics, emphasis on sportsmanship, and availability of teachers and staff. New Head of School started in June. In addition to the new buildings & renovations, they'll be working on ways to improve the relationships of day students & boarders. It's not horrible now, but any school that has both day & boardings students can't help but have some "relationship issues." Athletics are important, but not the be all and end all. The theater productions are outstanding, and the music and art programs have excellent reputations. (So I hear -- S isn't really into either.) Lots of students participate in Community Service projects.

The acceptance rate is 43% ......not 38.....
its a nice school....but... its too many day students....for going to boarding school....for me at least

Once they update profile, that accept the whole new data from the school.
So once they update all of the data in the profile page are updated.

Yes, if someone donate a big money, they donate the money for some period.
Until they are accpeted by the school and put into their endowment bank account, the money does not count. EVen if it couts, it counts slowly as the money comes in gradually. Also it takes some time to acquire even small money since they have to process for endownment account.

Loomis is not a bad school at all. If I had to find out concerens, I would point out (1) too many day student (2) acceptance rate increases gradually
(3) any school that has over 500 or 600 students are losing their competitiveness except top schools like Exter, Andover, Deerfield, Hotchkiss, and Choate.
Even Hotchkiss and Choate starts sagging. NMH decided to shrink the size.
NMH acceptance rate has been over 50%. When economy slows down, that trend speeds up.
