I am currently a freshman at Loomis Chaffee so if anyone is planning on applying there or has any questions, I am available.

Great! My d’s No. 1 School is LC, and we are coming for an interivew soon. We already visited the campus last spring, and d really loves it! She is a musician and artist, with a stellar academics, but without athletics. Would it hurt her chance???
How should we dress for the interview? Do you have some inside info to share that we can surprise the interview officer???

S graduated from LC in June. Not all incoming students are/need to be outstanding athletes. LC has an excellent art & music program. When S interviewed, he wore a jacket & tie. LC dress code is somewhat relaxed compared to other schools, but students are not allowed to wear jeans or hoodies and boys must wear a collared shirt.

Don’t understand what you’re asking.

If your D is into theatre, she can do the fall play or the winter musical and get an exemption from sports. Also, if she is really into music, (most freshman cant do this, but sophs can) she can prepare a recital during the spring term instead of a sport. There are also a lot of other options like club sports, arobics, fitness, community service, that all count for sports. a lot of other people also like to try new sports and end up loving then, maybe even making it to varsity by 12th grade.

Thanks you all for your kind reply.

Do you remember any of your interview questions for the student or parents?
We are preparing some q/a
- why boarding?
- why LC?
- How do you spend your free time?

???

We’d appreciated :)

Hey,

I have finalized that I will be applying to Loomis as a sophmore and I have some questions. What is the swimming program like a Loomis?(which schools do they compete against, how big is the pool there?) and also, what are the academics like there, in comparison to “hades”?

I am not a swimmer, so this isn’t going to be an amazing answer, but here we go: the pool is pretty big, there is a high diving board, and obviously some low ones. the swim program is pretty big, they have varsity JV, etc. I know A LOT of swimmers at the school, so i would guess that they may have chosen loomis because of the swim program.

I like to say that the academics are as hard as you make them. If you take 3 advanced courses, two un-“leveled” courses, and two music courses, like me, then I’d say its pretty rigorous, not much different then a HADES school. if you’re going to slack and you don’t push yourself, don’t take advanced courses, and don’t work for good grades, then obviously, like in any school, your not going to find it very challenging.

S wore khaki and shirt with tie for the interview. No need to dress up but don’t wear flippers, shorts or any cami style top.

Our interview went very smooth, just like a chat with friend. They did ask questions like “why boarding, why lc” and something like “tell me more about your child”…
Interview is also a good chance for you to ask them questions.

LC just opened the doors of their new performance center. I got an e-mail last week said there were 8 (or 10?) new Steinway pianos coming.

My son is not an athlete too, he spent more time on music more than sports.

ps: we found the girl’s dorm at LC are bigger and newer than boy’s !!!

Disagree somewhat w/ starz27 about the pool. S played waterpolo for 3 years and was on the swim team last year The pool is fairly old, but well maintained. If you’ve ever seen the pools at Exeter, Deerfield, Hotchlkiss,or Miss Porters, the one at LC doesn’t really stack up. BUT, it’s perfectly acceptable. The Girls’ Swim Team has done really well the last several years; the Boys’ Team has done fairly well. Results can vary from year to year, based on how many seniors graduate/what new talent comes on board. There was NOT a JV & Varsity team last year; it was all varsity. I know the LC website lists “JV Coed Swimming,” but I don’t believe that exists every year. The swim meets are against Deerfield, Andover, Kent, Hotchkiss, NMH, Suffield, Exeter, Choate & a few more – Founders’ League. They then go on to the New England Championships.

Hello all! I am currently a Senior at Loomis Chaffee, and I would love to answer any further questions that you may have about the opportunities offered on campus!

I am applying and have some questions.

1) How is the social scene? Parties?
2) How many free periods do you get in a day?
3) About how long does homework take a 9th grader to finish?
4) Do you guys have identification cards?
5) What time is lights out, if there is one?
6) How hard is it to get permission to leave campus?
